The Integrated Mobility Division (IMD) administers state and federal funds for public transportation, bicycle, and pedestrian programs and provides subject matter expertise related to multimodal transportation planning, innovation, technology, and emerging mobility trends. IMD’s core mission is to provide leadership for safe, affordable, and innovative multimodal transportation through North Carolina. IMD’s goals include eliminating transportation barriers, ensuring equal access to opportunities for all North Carolinians, enhancing quality of life by providing safe multimodal transportation choices, and ensuring safety for all road users and decarbonizing transportation.

This position serves as a senior project manager in the Integrated Mobility Division. Responsibilities include managing bicycle, pedestrian, and public transportation projects and programs. Specific responsibilities may include developing program guidance and standards; providing internal and external technical assistance; leading or aiding in project delivery activities; establishing program and project performance metrics, reviewing engineering plans and scoping documents; completing technical review of project documents; collecting data on program outcomes and performance; and briefing leadership on program objectives and accomplishments. At times the position will be responsible for responding to urgent requests from DOT leadership, the General Assembly, and community partners. Responsibilities also include technical assistance to Division staff and leadership on engineering matters and assisting the Director in establishing and implementing strategic goals for the Division.

  • In-depth knowledge of state and federal guidelines and regulations related to transportation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, programs staff and consultants.
  • Demonstrate experience serving as a technical advisor to internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating with diverse audiences in oral and written format.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a variety of customers and stakeholders.
Additional Expectations:
The employee must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and exhibit excellent organizational skills. The position requires some travel within the state, ability to work independently and represent the Division at various committee and board meetings and ability to give public presentations on behalf of the work of the Division.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification:
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
