Overview:

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer with an interest in working on new product development for Shure's legendary audio product portfolio? We want to hear from you!


In this role, you will design and document the Electro-mechanical features for products, components, or systems of multiple levels of complexity as part of a phase gate approach to product design.


This role can be hybrid based in our Niles, IL.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops robust electro-mechanical product designs and layouts of audio products and systems utilizing sound mechanical design fundamentals.
  • Creates fully defined 3D models and associated 2D documentation using CAD software (Siemens NX).
  • Validates designs by testing and evaluating data utilizing various techniques including tolerance analysis, FEA, DFM, and DFA.
  • Produces component designs that can be manufactured using established processes such as injection molding, die casting, machining, and sheet metal forming; interacts with in-house Tooling Engineers and external suppliers as needed.
  • Helps fabricate design prototypes using appropriate methods such as 3D Printing, in-house model shop, etc.
  • Coordinates the evaluation of experiments to solve engineering problems using simulation (e.g. FloTHERM thermal analysis, FEA, etc.) and correlate to physical prototype testing results.
  • Performs feasibility studies and testing on new and/or modified designs to resolve engineering problems.
  • Participates in cross-functional project teams for the product development process of new designs, including preparing and conducting mechanical design reviews and peer reviews.
  • Supports ongoing production/manufacturing via the engineering change process, as needed.
  • Prepares mechanical engineering studies, specifications, and cost estimates.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using skills as an experienced professional in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Possess an eagerness for continued mechanical design skills growth and a passion to apply them to develop world-class audio products.
  • Experience with 3D solid modeling CAD software is required. Knowledge of Siemens NX is preferred.
  • Has a good understanding and experience in GD&T application and industry practices.
  • Experience in audio product development is highly desired.
  • Proven track record of using good judgment when selecting methods/techniques for identifying solutions to challenging mechanical engineering design problems.
  • Able to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data or situations requires evaluation of intangible factors.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and cross functional team environment (including team members in Mexico and China), soliciting guidance and input from team members when needed to complete assignments.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Ability to travel internationally is required.
