The Positions - one English and one Bilingual (English/Spanish)

The Energy and Sustainability Division is a team-focused work environment that delivers excellent customer service to a diverse customer base. We provide our community with educational information and conduct outreach regarding the benefits, savings, and value of building improvement sustainability, energy efficiency and renewable energy generation, seismic strengthening, wildfire safety, and water conservation practices. In support of our efforts, these positions are responsible for:
  • Providing information to customers via telephone, email, and in-person regarding building improvements, qualified contractors, green business certification, and available rebates and financing
  • Processing finance program applications and requests for financing disbursement, and reviewing supporting documents for completeness and correctness
  • Conducting commercial on-site or virtual visits and assessments for the Green Business Certification program
  • Assisting in the preparation and maintenance of operating manuals, organization and workflow charts, spreadsheets, databases, forms, and similar materials
  • Training or orienting employees and others on the use of department documents, other data-gathering materials, and departmental procedures
Currently, our team is recruiting two ideal candidates who will thrive in our team environment and are excited to learn and grow with the expanding opportunities related to climate change resilience and sustainability. The ideal candidates will be comfortable working with the community and conducting public presentations at workshops, events, and consultations. Additionally, they have:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience building and maintaining effective work relationships with internal and external customers
  • The ability to shift tasks throughout the day while prioritizing the workload
  • Knowledge of finance lending, familiarity with real estate lending terms/vocabulary, and/or construction and green building technologies
  • Experience using Salesforce or other customer relationship management systems
  • Advanced skills in using Adobe Acrobat applications and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Familiarity with and experience editing documents to ensure compliance with Americans with Disability Act (ADA) requirements
  • A sense of humor!

The Energy and Sustainability office is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. These positions work primarily in an indoor office environment with occasional indoor and outdoor events that occur during the day, evenings, and weekends throughout the year. This recruitment is being conducted to fill one monolingual (English) position and one fluent, bilingual (English/Spanish) position. Energy and Sustainability is a Division of Sonoma County Public Infrastructure Department, formally the departments of General Services and Transportation and Public Works.

This employment list may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, or extra-help (temporary) positions as they occur during the active status of the list. The Civil Service title of these positions is Administrative Aide. Qualified County employees who wish to be considered for future positions should consider applying to this recruitment.

Bilingual positions require English and Spanish skills at either the basic (conversational) or fluent (reading, writing, and conversational) level. An examination will be conducted prior to appointment to a bilingual designated position to confirm the level of skill in this area.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Any combination of course work and training that would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, academic course work in public administration, business administration, management, accounting, political science, economics, statistics, English composition, psychology or closely related courses would provide such opportunity.

Experience: Work experience that would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, some experience related to general administration, accounting, budgetary analysis, or human resources work including the compilation, tabulation, analysis, and presentation of statistical and narrative written reports would provide such opportunity.

License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: administrative techniques and principles of organization, accounting, budget and human resources administration; techniques and practices of research methodology, data collection, and preliminary analysis; report writing; application and use of basic statistics; interview techniques sufficient to obtain information related to employment and administrative matters; written and oral communications, including language mechanics, syntax and English composition; modern office methods and procedures; database, spreadsheet and word processing applications including basic methods of graphic presentations.

Ability to: collect, compile and analyze qualitative and quantitative data; understand and explain laws, regulations and policies governing program operations; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, employees, clients, and the public; understand program objectives in relation to departmental goals and procedures; organize and prioritize work assignments; use and understand common database, spreadsheet and word processing applications; learn specialized computer applications.

Certain positions may require the ability to speak, read and write fluent Spanish.

The selection procedure will consist of the following examination:

Candidates demonstrating possession of the minimum qualifications will be placed on an employment list in order of most qualified to least qualified based on the achieved score received in the Application & Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination. Scores may be adjusted based on such factors as the number of candidates, anticipated vacancies, past practice, and natural breaks in the scores achieved by this group of candidates.
