OUC - The Reliable One, an industry leader and the second largest municipal utility in Florida committed to serving the community and the environment is presently recruiting for an Electric Technician II to join the Power Plant Maintenance team.

We are looking for a self-motivated, creative professional to be responsible for the troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of OUC’s power plant electrical systems and equipment. The Tech II classification is expected to hone and develop the mastery of power plant electrical maintenance skills, focusing on a specific area of the Power Plant while becoming more familiar over time with other areas. They are expected to be able to work independently on simple to moderate tasks. Tech II electricians work with high voltage (up to 6.9 kv) systems. Systems and equipment include but are not limited to the supporting and auxiliary electrical systems within and on: pumps, compressors, turbines, piping, valves, crushers, boilers, etc.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of four (4) years of power plant Electrical maintenance experience, OR seven (7) years of industrial Electrical maintenance experience
  • Certifications and specialized trainings to be required upon hire and to be maintained thereafter:
  • Completion of required General Physics (GPI) learnings and Job Performance Measures (JPMs) through Electric Technician III progression level (or equivalent skills training if external candidate)
  • Florida Driver’s License

Salary Range:
$34.07 per hour (Est. $70,869 annually - will receive a review every 6 months)

Job Purpose:

Responsible for the troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of OUC’s power plant electrical systems and equipment. The Tech II classification is expected to hone and develop the mastery of power plant electrical maintenance skills, focusing on a specific area of the Power Plant while becoming more familiar over time with other areas. They are expected to be able to work independently on simple to moderate tasks. Tech II electricians work with high voltage (up to 6.9 kv) systems. Systems and equipment include but are not limited to the supporting and auxiliary electrical systems within and on: pumps, compressors, turbines, piping, valves, crushers, boilers, etc.

Primary Functions:

  • Troubleshoot power plant electrical systems, including problem identification, evaluation of alternative solutions, and implementation of corrective action;
  • Perform installations, maintenance, tear down evaluation, and re-builds of supporting and auxiliary electrical devices within or on valves, bearings, turbines, high and low horsepower fans, pumps, air compressors, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems (pneumatic and belt), crushers and all equipment related to a power plant; Advanced tasks on aforementioned equipment may be done under supervision of a Tech I until demonstrated full proficiency;
  • Learn and assist with programing the control logic for feedback systems using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) (i.e. Modicon, Allen Bradley, etc.) to ensure accurate readings and information reach the appropriate places and people (i.e. control rooms/ power plant operators);
  • Perform inspections on jobs performed by lower classification technicians to ensure quality and standards;
  • Demonstrate proficiency of instrumentation and control (I&C) skills at the Tech III level (Competent in less complex tasks, developing in moderate/advanced tasks);
  • Utilize P&IDs and other documentation displaying the configuration and specification of parts, equipment, and systems to perform maintenance work;
  • Mentor and guide lower classification technicians within the Electric Tech’s duties to help with their learning and development in progression;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of all, but not limited to the following:
  • OSHA Safety practices and procedures (i.e. LOTO practices, PPE, vehicle safety policies, fire safety procedures, fall-arrest and confined spaces protocols, etc.);
  • Maintenance, installation, and upgrading of electrical systems for heavy equipment (power plant, industrial, etc.);
  • Electrical theory;
  • Power plant systems, their redundancies, and outage schedules;
  • Interpretation and editing of relevant documents outlining the layout, configuration, and specifications of various equipment (i.e. blueprints, P&IDs, etc.);
  • PLCs (i.e. Modicon, Allen Bradley);
  • Use of equipment to include: Hand tools, Electrical testing equipment (i.e. volt meter, meggers, motor testers, resistance meters, etc.), Electric maintenance shop equipment, forklift, mobile crane, Arial lifts, etc.;
  • Familiarity with all, but not limited to the following:
  • Software and technologies to include: LOTO software (Eclipse or similar), JD Edwards Enterprise One (E1) or similar [for TRs and PM work orders, parts inventory management], Distributed Control Information Systems (DCIS) [i.e. Ovation and Foxborro], etc.;
  • Power Plant operations (preferred);
  • Related industry, organizational and departmental regulatory guidelines, best practices, and procedures;
  • I&C skills expected of Tech III level (Competent in less complex tasks, developing in moderate/advanced tasks);
  • Strong problem solving, time management, and communication skills;
  • Ability to:
  • Learn and comply with OUC Safety practices and procedures (i.e. LOTO [Lock Out Tag Out] practices, PPE, vehicle safety policies, fire safety procedures, fall-arrest and confined spaces protocols, etc.);
  • Make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages;
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.) with basic proficiency.
