POSITION SUMMARY
This position is a first line resource for employees and management to obtain information and technical assistance with regard to safety and environmental issues. Collects information and prioritizes needs to reduce worker risk exposure, limit company liability and cut worker compensation costs. Serves as company resource in all aspects of Health, Safety, & Environmental as well as recommends, participates in policy making and decisions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
1. Monitors company compliance with Federal, State, & Local OSHA & Environmental laws implementing or providing recommendations to ensure compliance.
2. Actively heads off safety issues and concerns for employees before they become problems.
3. Manage work compensation claims.
4. Directs the Safety Improvement Program:

  • Conducting accident investigations with follow-up as necessary
  • Conducting new hire safety orientation
  • Complete necessary job safety analysis
  • Establish a safety audit program and its maintenance
  • Coordinates Industrial Hygiene monitoring

5. Evaluates safety training needs and coordinates with department managers and supervisors for implementation of needed/required training.

  • Conducts training, i.e. Hazard Communication, lockout/tag out, forklift, etc.

6. Organizes required inspections: Crane, Fire Department, OSHA, EPA/DNR.
7. Maintains appropriate regulatory documentation including the SDS information system.
8. Coordinates Environmental compliance:

  • Filing all necessary governmental reports i.e., air, water, SARA, Hazardous waste
  • Assists environmental data collection i.e., material purchase (gas, metal) etc.
  • Responsible for all permitting, i.e., sere, fluoroscope, pressure vessels, air, SWPPP, non-storm water
  • Assists 3rd party with coordination of remedial investigation, soil, groundwater
  • Monitors monthly noise readings

9. ISO14001 Management Representative.
10. Duties as assigned.

Plant office. Frequent exposure to noise, heat in a heavy manufacturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS*
Four-year degree in safety related field or equivalent work experience in die casting. Possesses or has the ability to obtain ASP (CSP preferred) certification within four years. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills within all levels of the organization. Demonstrated effective training ability. Familiar with OSHA regulations a must; familiarity with EPA regulation a plus. Possesses computer skills, i.e., database and Microsoft Office 365.
