Start Time: Immediate. This role is for the duration of the 2022-2023 school year only.
DSST Public Schools (DSST) seeks a Campus Support Teacher to join one of the leading charter school organizations in the nation. We serve 6-12th grade students across Denver and Aurora with a mission to transform urban public education by eliminating educational inequity and preparing all students for success in college and the 21st century.

Overview of Position:

This position is a great role for someone who is wanting to experience education in any subject and may or may not have experience yet! This is a school support role that has the potential to become a lead teacher in future years. Our co-teachers play an integral part in the success of our community by filling in where needed at the different DSST campuses. This could look like long term coverage for a teacher on leave, short term daily classroom coverage, or even just additional support for another teacher in a classroom.

Essential Functions:
At DSST, teachers are leaders who play an integral role in ensuring student success through:
  • The promotion of cultures of difference
  • Developing and instructing a rigorous core curriculum that is responsive, relevant, and youth informed
  • Using data to analyze and drive their daily practice.
  • Taking personal accountability for their impact to improve the minds, outcomes and lives of youth, and are reflective of their practice in order to be responsive to their students.
  • Creating learning environments to support youth in owning their learning & academic success.
  • Modeling and maintaining high expectations for all learners
  • Identifying personal strengths that will support the school’s core values, guiding philosophy, expectations, and school spirit.
Classroom Teaching
  • Exhibit mastery and enthusiasm for the assigned academic subjects and classes
  • Work closely and collaboratively with students, parents, and other teachers within the school and throughout the DSST network.
  • Teach 3-5 classes a day of various lengths depending on the DSST campus and subject area.
  • Use the network’s curriculum and standards to plan and implement targeted lessons and assessments for each student including differentiating for the needs of all learners.
  • Keep an up-to-date gradebook for each class.
  • Work to implement and master DSST Public Schools’ core instructional and culturally responsive and relevant teaching practices
    • Which include Tone & Presence, Student Engagement, Classroom Routines, Checks for Understanding, Restorative Justice, etc.
Data and Analysis
  • Implement a variety of network assessments depending on grade level.
  • Use assessment data to identify and address any racial, gender, special education and linguistically diverse inequities and disparities across all data points.
  • Use of data to adapt lessons and instructional practices to help students meet the school's performance standards.
    • Use of data includes re-teach weeks, spiraling skills, and using varied techniques/differentiating to meet student needs.
Professional Development
  • Engage in weekly feedback sessions with an instructional coach.
  • Seek out and request opportunities for growth and continuous self-improvement in teaching, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Willingness to engage in constructive dialogue with students, colleagues, and school administration.
  • Actively support and participate in the school’s professional development programs
    • This includes weekly staff meetings, data analysis and designing, planning, leading, and participating in best practice sessions, and peer coaching.
School Life
  • Support the school’s core values and policies inside and outside the classroom with colleagues, students, parents, and the larger community.
  • Model, live, and reinforce DSST's commitment to educational equity and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as core to our mission.
  • Reinforce the values of the individual Human Condition inside and outside the classroom with colleagues, students, parents and the larger community.
  • Serve as a recruiter for new students; actively engage prospective families in an effort to draw more students to choose your school; be willing to take on additional tasks to support recruitment, as needed
  • Student Advisor
    • Serve as an advisor to a small group of advisees by overseeing their academic and student life
      • Leading weekly Advisory activities and lessons
      • Taking attendance & checking homework completion
      • Holding regular academic and behavioral conferences
      • Meeting & communicating with families regularly
      • If applicable, leading reading and culture circles
Grade level teammate
  • Participate in weekly meetings to support student culture and academics for the whole grade.
  • Participate in data tracking and observations for students via Multi-tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS)
  • Participate in planning and execution of grade level events.
Weekly Staff Meetings
  • Participate in weekly whole school staff meetings to support school culture and teacher initiatives
  • Participate in planning and proctoring extra teacher responsibilities throughout the week, as needed
    • Lunch Duty, Morning Duty, After School Duty, Enrichment, Academic Interventions (College Prep, Mandatory Tutoring), Hallway duty, etc.
  • Behavioral Support Intervention (depending on campus)
    • Refocus, silent lunch, core values point system, etc.
  • Support as a substitute teacher if necessary

DSST Public Schools (DSST) operates a network of tuition-free, open-enrollment public STEM charter schools. DSST schools operate within the Denver Public Schools (DPS) and Aurora Public Schools (APS) districts.
