Project Overview

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States and the next large-scale lithium mine. The project has all permits required to commence construction, which is expected to start in 2023. Engineering design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway, with early works being coordinated. This project falls under the Lithium Americas umbrella of Lithium Nevada Corporation (LNC). Project site is located ~3 hours northeast of Reno at the southern end of the McDermitt Caldera in Humboldt County, NV, and ~25 miles from the Nevada-Oregon border (or ~1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, NV). The Project will be developed as an open-pit mining operation using conventional, continuous mining equipment. Given the soft, clay nature of the deposit, minimal blasting and crushing is anticipated. The ore will then be processed in a leaching circuit using sulfuric acid to liberate the lithium from the claystone. Following the leaching process, the lithium bearing solution will be purified using crystallizers and reagents to produce battery-quality Li2CO3. The Thacker Pass site has a flat and expansive terrain which allows for a very compact footprint and for future potential expansions. Bechtel will have responsibility for the full EPC/EPCM scope.


Position Summary

Bechtel’s Digital Supply Chain System (DSCS) is a data-centric suite of tools that integrates and digitalizes work processes across functions: Finance, Procurement, Engineering, Project Controls, Construction, Startup & Commissioning and beyond. This enterprise-wide platform allows to improve information sharing and optimization of end-to-end processes by providing a methodology of managing information digitally. As new Bechtel projects deploy DSCS, the GBU DSCS Specialist will support all End Users within the Global Business Unit (GBU) to ensure project success. It also requires performing the Purchases of Operation Product & Services Orders.


The GBU DSCS Specialist and OPS Buyer will work with GBU Implementation Manager to provide technical support, training, and implementation of DSCS within the GBU. This will include managing Project set up, completing key Project configuration tasks, training End Users, collecting and escalating User Feedback, setting up templates and other features for Project use, and trouble-shooting issues as they arise. The OP&S Buyer position will be responsible for performing duties in the purchasing, including bidder prequalification, bidder lists, bid solicitation, bid analysis, negotiation, and commitment of orders and performs administration of orders as well.


Essential Job Duties

  • Gain understanding of all aspects of Project requirements involved with DSCS implementation, its functionality, structure, business objectives and integration with other systems.
  • Serve as the primary point of contract (POC) for GBU project implementation of DSCS.
  • Responsible for conforming import data (such as inventory and engineering information that exists in other systems) to DSCS format and standards.
  • Complete light configuration of project requirements (e.g., RFQ templates, maintenance of Key Members, Contract Terms Templates).
  • Deliver End User training to project users on DSCS and modules.
  • Coordinate implementation of DSCS and third-party software integration as needed.
  • Management of DSCS system users (Add users to the systems, manage user rights, etc.).
  • Support GBU-level report development.
  • Report risks and issues that may impact the success of DSCS deployment.
  • Participate in DSCS module user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Contribute to and create new Bec-Wiki article as required to help End Users.
  • Escalate appropriate issues to DSCS Core Team.
  • Provide insight to the GBU Management and others regarding status of End User adoption.
  • Report risks and issues that may impact the success of project implementation to the appropriate level in the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Supply Chain/Contracts.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Bechtel Procurement as Buyer.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in DSCS and Unifier.
  • Demonstrated and sustained high level of attention to detail.
  • Capable of excellent overall written and verbal communication skills, and specific skill in effectively communicating technical issues, to all levels within the organization.
  • Knowledge of relational database concepts, including logical sorting and selection criteria specification.
  • Experience and knowledge of data processing operations.
  • Customer-service oriented individual with a demonstrated professional demeanor and communication style.
  • Excellent communication language skills.
  • Collaborative and consultative interpersonal work style.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or Information /Technology Systems Management, or similar.
  • Experience with planning and conducting training classes or providing user desk-side training.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed, including early mornings, late nights and weekends, coordinate with colleagues in various global time zones and locations.
  • Ability to conduct business travel as needed.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Forms, issues, and administers purchase orders. Communicates with suppliers to achieve required service and meet project needs.


Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows based, networked, computing environments.

  • Knowledge of standard office productivity tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.

  • Knowledge of other standard applications used by Engineering, Procurement and Construction.

  • Skilled in oral and written communication.

  • Experience with typical troubleshooting methods.

  • Skilled in oral communication and experienced in giving practical and technical presentations.

  • Proficiency and experience in the formation and administration of purchase orders
