EXPECTATIONS AND NATURE OF THE POSITION

The Director oversees the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and provides strategic leadership and coordination in the development and implementation of Western’s instructional support programs. The Director is the advocate, liaison and representative for the services provided by the Center for Teaching and Learning, designing and implementing innovative faculty professional development initiatives aligned with Western’s strategic priorities and supported by School Chairs. The Director advances Western’s vision and strategic plan through effective management of Instructional Support collaborating with external stakeholders and assisting key internal stakeholders in administering projects so that goals and objectives are met in a timely and accurate manner which adhere to policies and procedures.

The College expects this individual to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with College personnel and the public. This individual will follow all College policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE

1. Provide leadership and management for Instructional Support programs in Western’s five-county service area and represents Instructional Support in the Academic and Student Affairs Council and other committees, as assigned.

2. Ensure that the College is meeting the appropriate standards for Instructional Support as established by the Higher Learning Commission.

3. Provide overall leadership, coordination, and planning for the Center for Teaching and Learning and its staff, advancing institutional and faculty needs for professional development.

4. Develop, in consultation with School Chairs, a faculty professional development program to enhance faculty effectiveness in the online and physical classrooms. Monitor and track faculty professional development efforts.

5. Develop and coordinate on-going orientation and training programs for new faculty and current faculty, providing training opportunities in both technology and instructional design.

6. Oversee integration of existing and new instructional technologies.

7. Collaborate with School Chairs and instructors to develop high quality instructional platforms for Western’s students, both at a distance and face-to-face.

8. Collaborate with the Information Technology Department on current and future technical needs related to Instructional Support and related support and training.

9. Advances accessibility for the institution within the learning management system.

10. Participates as an active member of the Wyoming Distance Education Consortium (WyDEC) and serves on additional state-wide advisory groups as needed.

11. Supervises the maintenance of the faculty resource webpage.

12. Keep the Academic and Student Affairs Council, President’s Cabinet, Marketing Committee, other committees as assigned, and the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs informed with regard to Instructional Support. Make an annual report to the Board of Trustees.

13. Manage the appropriate budgets; make recommendations regarding the annual budget and; direct the proper expenditure of College moneys through efficient management techniques and practices; ensure that the appropriate salary schedule is followed.

14. Coordinate the annual updating of Instructional Support procedures and publications.

15. Develop and coordinate new faculty onboarding and training in collaboration with the school chair group.

16. Act as the coordinator and leader of the Great Teacher Seminar at Western. Engage faculty in GTS efforts.

17. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Other Duties

1. Develop and maintain appropriate records.

2. Serve as a resource person to the community as a whole and to various special publics by being willing to speak to groups, answer specific inquiries, assist with research projects and workshops, locate information and perform other related tasks.

3. Participate in the College’s on-going Assessment Program to develop a more effective, creative and efficient learning environment for all Western students.

4. Maintain an inventory of all assigned equipment and supplies; take prudent efforts to safeguard Western’s physical resources from unauthorized use.

5. Maintain safe-working conditions at all times.

6. Keep abreast of professional developments by attending conferences, seminars and workshops and by reading appropriate professional literature.

7. Understand the budgeting and requisition process of the college. Assist with preparing annual and biennial budgets as requested; understand and use the purchase requisition process.

8. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Knowledge & Abilities)

1. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree.

2. Three years of experience providing college-level instruction.

3. Working knowledge of technology solutions within higher education.

4. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, problem-solving and consensus-building expertise, and excellent human relations skills.

5. Knowledge of the latest research, trends, and developments in higher education, specifically programs related to instruction and Instructional Support.

6. Progressively responsible work experience in the field of faculty professional development.

Equivalency Statement

For those candidates who do not exactly meet all minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, will be acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Knowledge & Abilities)

1. Two years of experience in a position with demonstrated leadership and managerial responsibilities, specifically in administering college-level Instructional Support programs.

2. Documented experience developing, organizing, and successfully implementing new programs, projects, curriculum, or managing projects.

3. Organizational and strategic management abilities as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs.

4. Demonstrated knowledge of Western Wyoming Community College’s goals and objectives, of community colleges and their students, and of the strategic needs of various academic and other College divisions.

5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide variety of College personnel and to coordinate people and work when required by complex projects that support College objectives.

6. Experience teaching full-time in mixed modality. Preferably at a community college.

7. Experience with technologies and software related to online education, Canvas or other learning management systems.

8. Experience applying Quality Matters, or related quality-related rubrics, to online courses.

9. Experience training faculty to teach within the online environment.
