Associate Director, Financial Planning & Analysis

The Associate Director of Financial Planning & Analysis will report to the College's Associate Vice President of Finance and serve as a key partner to the AVP for Finance. The Associate Director helps lead the financial planning, reporting, and analysis processes combining a strong financial expertise with strong computer and software skills. The Associate Director will significantly contribute to building financial models and trend analyses for annual planning and quarterly forecasts. The Associate Director will assist the AVP, build and lead a dynamic team of financial analysts responsible for financial forecasting, models, trend analyses, special informational reports, special projects and requests, and building a library of financial data that is relied upon and updated in order for senior leadership to use as they contemplate financial strategies of the College. This position requires frequent interaction with the College's business operations leadership, executive leadership and eventually the President's Council, Finance Committee, and other directors and department heads.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Serve as a key partner to the AVP for Finance regarding financial planning and analysis, key performance indicators, trend analyses, management reporting and data governance matters.
  • Own the preparation and delivery of firm's financial forecasting and modeling process, including analysis surrounding our key business drivers and making sure the forecasts and models are continuously updated.
  • Publish monthly financial management reporting packages and key performance indicators. Evaluate financial results and provide insight surrounding variances, risks and opportunities.
  • Measure financial performance against industry benchmarks and peer educational institutions. Spearhead completion of various periodic/annual industry surveys and synthesize the results.
  • Provide training to new directors and College leadership on financial operations, management reports and self-service reporting tools (ex. Workday and Abenaki).
  • Prepare financial management reports to support College initiatives, for example, year-end financial summaries and trends on topics such as tuition, foreign operations, discount rate, housing, other sources of revenue, etc.
  • Actively influence the continued enhancement of finance technology tools and data management practices.
  • Lead and develop team members through effective mentoring/coaching, support and delegation of work.
  • Play an active role in special projects, as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting. Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science or a related field required is preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years' related finance experience in higher education preferred, ideally concentrated in reporting, planning and analysis.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial principles
  • Knowledge of GAAP-based accounting in a higher education environment
  • Knowledge of cost accounting
  • Expert proficiency in MS Excel and the ability to learn new software easily
  • Excellent organizational skills including ability to prioritize workload under the pressure of competing assignments
  • Ability to manage and coach staff with a strong commitment to the development and growth of team members
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
  • Superior written communication, reporting, and analytical skills
  • Ability to compile and communicate complex financial data to present to non-financial audiences
  • Ability to negotiate conflict and maintain constructive working relationships with people at all levels of an organization
  • Ability to translate Workday and other financial modeling software reports and information into models, dashboards and analyses

COMPENSATION

The hiring salary range for this position is $75,731 - $94,664 commensurate with years of relevant experience.

Grade of Position: 23-10E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25
