Southern Teachersis assisting Green Hedges School with its search for an experienced Director of Finance to provide visionary direction for the school’s budget development and reporting, financial projections, accounts payable and receivable, investments, capital projects, and human resources. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director works closely with the Head of School, other senior administrators, and the Board of Trustees to ensure fiscally responsible and mission-aligned decision-making. A strategic, collaborative, creative leader, the Director of Finance guides the development of innovative approaches to institutional sustainability, flexibility, and operational excellence.

The Director ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and school policies; participates in Board meetings and works closely with Finance, Buildings and Grounds, and Investment committees; and processes accounts payable, cash receipts, and accounts receivable using Blackbaud NXT and Blackbaud Tuition Management. He or she maintains relationships with financial consultants, auditors, investment advisors, and bank representatives; oversees human resources; advocates for consistent employment policies, adequate staffing levels, and competitive compensation and benefits programs; collects, analyzes, and presents annual benchmarking data; processes payroll; and administers medical, dental, vision, group life, and disability. The Director engages positively and communicates effectively with families, donors, and volunteers and remains knowledgeable about independent-school trends, taking advantage of professional development opportunities whenever possible.

The best candidates will hold advanced degrees in in finance or relevant fields and have five years of financial leadership experience, preferably as CPAs, in senior management or at governance level, with proven success as members of collaborative teams. They should have work experience at schools or non-profit organizations and familiarity with key policies and parameters related to legal, risk management, and school safety management. They should have excellent communication, listening, mediation, facilitation, and collaboration skills and the ability to interact positively and productively with faculty, staff, students, parents, and vendors and to problem-solve, think critically, and develop creative solutions. The Director must have the highest ethical standards, integrity, and judgment and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information with utmost discretion.

Located in Vienna, Virginia, 14 miles west of Washington, DC, Green Hedges School serves approximately 185 students from age two through grade eight.
