The role of the Director of Communications is to help elevate awareness of Urban Autism Solutions (UAS) through your expertise, counsel, and creative communications ideas.

This position will be responsible for the management and oversight of tasks including but not limited to social media strategy, website content, media relations and authoring blogs, newsletters, and donor communications. You will also work closely with our freelance graphic designer to create materials and to keep the website current and visually appealing.

You will be the chief storyteller, controlling the narrative of the organization, promoting the organization, and working with our fundraising team to help us identify and take advantage of diverse funding opportunities.

You will be expected to demonstrate best practices by creating a strategic communications plan, pitching media, developing blog posts, and coming up with creative ways to help us build brand awareness and develop connections to our community, partners and donors. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channel is critical.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create and implement an annual strategic communications plan; work closely with leadership, fundraising team, and board of directors (as needed)
  • Create an editorial calendar and media list
  • Manage Constant Contact (CC) lists and develop and use CC to send newsletters and other communications
  • Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action and increased awareness of UAS and the work we are doing
  • Manage the creation of a new website, offering content ideas and suggestions; work in collaboration with graphic designer and leadership team
  • Coordinate webpage maintenance—ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly
  • Utilize and manage the online communication vehicles (Instagram, FB, LinkedIn and YouTube) to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities
  • You will be responsible for securing all images used on social media and will be expected to take photos and videos of UAS programs and activities to showcase what goes on at UAS on a daily basis
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, fliers
  • Work closely with print vendors/ graphic designer and others
  • Create PowerPoint presentations as needed for various speeches by the leadership team
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the team
  • Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time
  • Write letters to donors and interested parties; develop templates
  • Manage all media contacts; write press releases and pitch story ideas and help generate awareness about UAS
  • Ability to edit and proof documents using AP Style
  • Offer new ideas; be creative and think outside the box!
  • Other duties as assigned and administrative tasks

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree and at least two years of experience working in a fast-paced environment, communications experience at a non-profit organization preferred
  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills, using AP Style
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to "manage by influence"
  • High energy, maturity and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
  • Expert-levelel social media skills
  • Intermediate skills using Google suite of products and familiarity using MS products
  • Working knowledge and experience updating/contributing to website (Wix) in conjunction with our graphic designer
  • Knowledge of Canva a plus

Physical presence at the UAS worksite or in the field is an essential job function of this role which UAS deems critical to collaboration, innovation, productivity, employee well-being, and enhances company culture.

Job Types: Part-time, Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
