Summary

The Director of Accounting is responsible for managing one corporate business unit and interfacing with multiple remote business units. This role also serves as a consultant for managers within the organization, advising them of current budgetary information and working with managers to create a fiscal strategy that aligns with the goals of PlayCore. This position will be working at the corporate office in Chattanooga, TN and traveling to Fort Payne, AL several days a week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or review appropriate ledger entries and reconciliations, analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions
  • Maintain the general ledger system and chart of accounts
  • Prepare monthly comparative financial analyses for management’s review
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Prepare annual budget and quarterly forecasts for corporate departments, including Divisional allocations
  • Assess internal controls for corporate accounting functions, make recommendations for improvement and develop process and procedure documents as needed
  • Assist with year-end audit and cross-functional support within the Corporate Finance department
  • Support the integration of new business units into financial reporting processes and systems
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required. Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial accounting
  • Knowledge and experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Financial Statement preparation and consolidations
  • Experience with multi-division manufacturer preferred

Computer Skills

Candidate must be highly proficient with Microsoft Excel and with a mid-tier financial ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics and QuickBooks preferred).
