Actual pay rate will be calculated based on relevant years of experience and education/certification requirements.


ROLE SUMMARY

The Diet Clerk is responsible for high quality nutritional care by assuring that diet orders are carried out and patient requests are accurately met within limitations of prescribed diet. This position competently provides dietary services for all age groups.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accurately obtains & enters patient menu choices into the Diet Office computer system. Takes menu selections over the phone and at the patient bedside. Notifies kitchen personnel of special items (i.e. unit or patient request, special meals, add-ons, etc.)
  • Confirms questionable diet orders with appropriate personnel (nursing unit, R.N., physician) and accurately makes changes as necessary.
  • Understands the different tube feeding and oral supplements and recognizes the importance of sending the correct formula according to the patient’s diet order.
  • Works effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Delivers meal trays to patient rooms according to time expectations to maintain quality and satisfaction.
  • Assures patient safety by making sure the right tray is delivered to the right patient.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Dietary Department and other departments.
  • Knowledgeable of complex diets and allergies; is conscientious of patient diet needs and takes all necessary steps to ensure patients receive correct diet.
  • Organizes on duty time to accommodate workload, including unanticipated changes in workload.
  • Continuously monitors for unsafe situations within the department to prevent injury.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, & staff, both on the phone and in person.
  • Works as a team player to complete all job assignments.
  • Supports innovations that are introduced by team leaders and managers
  • Keeps adequate levels of supplies stocked in area, so the next shift has needed items readily available.
  • Works as an active team participant towards solutions to common problems.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred. College credits in nutrition coursework preferred.

Experience: Experience in a nutrition-related position preferred. Previous experience with computer systems preferred

Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Washington State (DOH) Food Handlers card required.
