Job Description:
SUMMARY:
The Cost Accountant position performs general cost accounting duties in relation to the manufacturing of major machinery, modifications, parts and service, and ensures accuracy of inventory values.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly reports
  • Prepare shipment and cost projections
  • Prepare cost of sales journal entries to post sales and cost of sales and prepare other assigned journal entries
  • Assist in the calculations of activity/overhead rates
  • Perform monthly forecasts to project job profitability, material burden, and expenses
  • Perform monthly analysis on estimated demand versus capacity
  • Assist in monthly analysis of inventory and year-end physical inventory audits
  • Calculate and project LIFO and FAS 151 requirements
  • Create/update standards based upon internal routing or external quotations
  • Maintain the accuracy of documented procedures and recommend improvements to the cost accounting system and processes
  • Prepare account reconciliations for inventory accounts
  • Identify and participate in opportunities to improve and implement lean business processes
  • Participate on various teams as a leader, member, or key resource
  • Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 3-5 years of accounting experience; cost accounting experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  • Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with ERP based query and reporting tools.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Ability to analyze and electronically organize large amounts of data.
  • Working knowledge of Crystal Reports & Infor XA preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about occasionally
  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer items up to 30 lbs. occasionally
  • Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards
  • Travel by air or car occasionally
