Job Description:
SUMMARY:
The Cost Accountant position performs general cost accounting duties in relation to the manufacturing of major machinery, modifications, parts and service, and ensures accuracy of inventory values.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly reports
- Prepare shipment and cost projections
- Prepare cost of sales journal entries to post sales and cost of sales and prepare other assigned journal entries
- Assist in the calculations of activity/overhead rates
- Perform monthly forecasts to project job profitability, material burden, and expenses
- Perform monthly analysis on estimated demand versus capacity
- Assist in monthly analysis of inventory and year-end physical inventory audits
- Calculate and project LIFO and FAS 151 requirements
- Create/update standards based upon internal routing or external quotations
- Maintain the accuracy of documented procedures and recommend improvements to the cost accounting system and processes
- Prepare account reconciliations for inventory accounts
- Identify and participate in opportunities to improve and implement lean business processes
- Participate on various teams as a leader, member, or key resource
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 3-5 years of accounting experience; cost accounting experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with ERP based query and reporting tools.
- Proficiency in Excel and Word.
- Ability to analyze and electronically organize large amounts of data.
- Working knowledge of Crystal Reports & Infor XA preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer
- Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about occasionally
- Lift, move or otherwise transfer items up to 30 lbs. occasionally
- Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards
- Travel by air or car occasionally
