Job Description

Puget Sound Energy, Bellevue, WA seeks Consulting Energy Resource Planning/Acquisition Analysts, responsible to develop analytical approaches, using long-term resource models, spreadsheet analysis and/or other tools as necessary, to analyze long-term resource analysis using models such as Aurora, Power World, Sendout, PSM, etc. Lead efforts to build interdepartmental consensus on analytical approaches and related critical input assumptions that will shape the company’s long-term resource strategy.

Job Responsibilities

Coordinate and oversee research activity to identify trends in long-term energy markets including policy issues that will impact the company’s long-term resource strategy to include performing economic and financial analysis for different types of commercial structures including PPAs, Ownership, FTRs and ARRs. Lead and develop communication processes to effectively communicate analytical methods, assumptions and results with key external stakeholders to lay the foundation for recovering costs of future resource acquisitions. Plan, lead development of interdepartmental consensus on, build and perform long-term resource analysis using spreadsheets. Direct development of input databases necessary to perform long-term resource planning analysis. Identify and oversee development of means to address critical energy policy issues that may affect the company’s long-term resource strategy. Serve as strategic lead on special projects, technical analysis and complex matters to include building complex financial models to analyze project finance, corporate finance issues and to perform long term financial forecast. Direct and perform research on energy industry issues and communicate implications to senior management and high-level external stakeholders. Develop analytical ties between resource planning and resource acquisitions. Create communication strategies with regard to results of research and analyses both written and in presentations. Create communication materials, such as PowerPoint slides, charts, etc. Lead efforts to communicate with external stakeholders to develop consensus around resource planning issues and to effectively communicate IRP issues. Monitor energy load and supply trends and developments at the local, state, regional and national levels and incorporate that data into the models as necessary. Lead, train and mentor staff in the development, administration and analysis of programs to assess financial implications and alternatives of specific resource opportunities and evaluation of fuel supply alternatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires Bachelor’s (or foreign educ. equiv.) Degree in Economics, Management, Business, Finance, Engineering or related field and five (5) yrs. (post-degree, progressive) experience in Job Offered or related. Experience must have included Building spreadsheet models to develop analytical approaches for solving problems and corporate issues; Leading and influencing cross-functional teams and stakeholders to perform long term economic and financial forecast; Applying energy and utility industry experience to different types of power generation assets including hydro, thermal, wind, solar and storage in order to perform economic and financial analysis for different types of commercial structures including PPAs, Ownership, FTRs and ARRs; Applying utility finance functions including revenue requirements, rate base, load forecast, and power purchase agreement for utility rate case and cost recovery; Building financial models to analyze project finance, corporate finance issues and to perform long term financial forecast; Creating and presenting PowerPoint slides and charts, as well as writing reports; Leading, training and mentoring staff.
