Job Brief:

Reporting to the Executive Director – and in regular communication with Heartbeet’s central management body and householders - the Community Activities Coordinator is responsible for coordination, and quality oversight of Heartbeet’s daily community activities outside the residences, which include but are not limited to its woodworking, felting and painting studios, farm, gardens, estate/landscaping and culinary crews, and Hardwick area employment opportunities.


The Community Activities Coordinator will work closely with the householders to observe, plan and implement activities that facilitate learning, development and a sense of community contribution and meaning for all Friends. The Coordinator upholds the integrity of Camphill values in all their decisions and initiatives and ensures the welfare of all day program participants of Heartbeet Lifesharing. There may be the opportunity, over time, for the Coordinator to actually hold responsibility for a given Heartbeet work crew or studio.


Key Responsibilities Include:

To implement the strategic goals and objectives of Heartbeet Lifesharing as they pertain to day programs the coordinator will be responsible for:

  • All day programs scheduling, including the development of scheduling systems and oversight for the community scheduling document(s) – currently ‘The Beet’ – and as developed into the future.
  • Holds a central communications role between day services contractors, part-time employees, and householders for program changes, scheduling issues, and absences.
  • In collaboration with Heartbeet’s AdminCore group, develops the vision for day program services and participates in the development and support of strategic or business plans for the long term excellence of the day programs.
  • Ensures adequate training is in place for crew leaders and coworkers.
  • Oversight and coordination of job placement and community volunteering.
  • Maintains awareness for each Friend’s person-centered planning goals and participates in and prepares for annual ISA meetings.
  • Leads quarterly review of day program services with all crew leaders towards the highest quality environment.
  • Integrates the Friends into regular informational meetings about Crew & Studio development and develops appropriate forums to allow information to be properly communicated to and received from Heartbeet staff.
  • Completes documentation required to record the progress of Friends and for any incidents/events requiring an Incident Report per Heartbeet policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that Friend’s rights are maintained, explained, encouraged, and respected.
  • Participates in relevant community meetings and Heartbeet organizational meetings as required.
  • As a representative of Heartbeet, interacts in a professional manner with guardians, case managers, relevant partner agencies and local organizations and individuals.


Health and Safety:

  • Ensures well-being and safety of staff and Friends by being knowledgeable of, and ensuring adherence to, related legislation (i.e., Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Vermont TCR regulations), ensuring completion of required inspections and drills, and the wearing/use of necessary protective equipment.
  • Ensures, in cooperation with work crew and studio leaders, that work locations are clean and provides recommendations concerning repairs, maintenance, renovations or improvements of work locations as required.
  • In cooperation with the Director of Licensing and Compliance, investigates Community Activities accidents and ensures completion of incident reports as required.
  • Ensures that the Heartbeet Health and Safety Policies and Procedures are effectively implemented in the work crews and studios.

Requirements:

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s license.
  • Clean background check.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent skills and familiarity with Google’s Suite of Productivity Tools.
  • Positive attitude, reliable, flexible, and self-motivated.
  • At least three years Camphill experience preferred but not required.
  • BA Degree preferred but not required.
