JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a Clinical Pharmacy Technician, you are responsible for ensuring the efficacy, safety, and affordability of the medications prescribed by Nirvana physicians. In carrying out your duties, you would be interacting regularly with physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and patients. The position is full-time, permanent, classified nonexempt, and reports to the Manager of, the Pharmacy Department. The available shifts include 9 am to 5 pm or 10 am to 6 pm. However, some flexibility in scheduling may be possible. The candidate must be willing to rotate working on some Saturdays with other Clinical Pharmacy Technicians.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform all tasks relating to the proper storage and distribution of samples of prescribed medications
  • Communicate regularly with the representatives of pharmaceutical companies in order to maintain an adequate inventory of samples of prescribed medications
  • Assist Nirvana healthcare providers in the review and refiling of medications, the maintenance of medication inventories, and the accurate completion of patient records and additional required documentation
  • Collaborate with Nirvana healthcare providers to maintain adequate inventories of samples of prescribed medications
  • Support Nirvana healthcare providers in the maintenance of accurate, timely documentation, including patient records and performance of required tasks
  • Facilitate prior authorizations and changes in medications and/or dosages with pharmacists and physicians in order to ensure medication affordability
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and/or physicians (under their direct supervision) to educate patients on the importance of compliance and to assist in medication reconciliations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training

  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Certification as a Registered Pharmacy Technician by the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy; new hires have three months from date of hire to obtain and confirm registration
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)his is preferred but not absolutely
  • Fluency in English and Spanish

Knowledge/Skills

  • Fluency regarding the names (brand names and generic equivalents) of common prescription medications
  • Knowledge of dosages and dosing methods (including their abbreviations)
  • Fluency in abbreviations relating to medical conditions, medications, and their administration
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Calendar)

Personal Qualities

  • Personable, works well with others, possesses good communications skills, and remains composed in high-pressure situations
  • Excellent time management skills, detail-oriented, and values the importance of precision and accuracy
