The Department of Pediatrics has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Classroom Assistant. The Classroom Assistant assists teachers in completing assigned responsibilities for instruction, planning, organization, activity implementation, evaluation, childcare, and record maintenance.

• Assists the teacher with disciplining children and recommends or initiates other measures to control behavior, such as picking up toys and books.

• Assists with classroom and group activities.

• Participates in development of curriculum and related materials used in the classroom.

• Supports children’s emotional and social development and encourages understanding of others and positive self-concepts.

• Identifies signs of emotional or developmental problems in children.

• Maintains a safe and stimulating classroom.

• Sanitizes toys, equipment, and materials.

• Attends and participates in in-service training activities.

• Participates in classroom meetings and contributes relevant information.

• Participates in applied research and curricula task force programs.

• Cooperates with classroom teachers and other assistants.

• Supervises student trainees and volunteers in the classroom.

• Implements curriculum, under the direction and guidance of teachers, following goals on each student’s Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP) and/or Individual Educational Plan (IEP).

• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Certification in relevant specialty or field

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

• Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

• Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

• Ability to work 12-month school year.

• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

• Commitment to the University’s core values.

• Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
