Job Description:

Job Title: Lead Teacher

Program: Early Childhood Education—Early Start Learning Development Center

Reports to: Team leader or Early Education Program Director

POSITION SUMMARY

The Early Education Lead Teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all children in their care, which may include toddlers and/or preschool age children; develops partnerships with birth parents/child’s caregivers to engage and encourage parent participation in program. Lead Teacher is also responsible for assuring compliance with codes of all State and local governing contracting agencies; and works collegially with other staff members of Early Start Learning Development Center

QUALIFICATIONS

▪ Be at least 19 years of age

▪ Have a high school degree or equivalent education

▪ Possess an Associate’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree

▪ 1-year related work experience

▪ Submit to various background checks

▪ Be CPR, First Aid certified within 30 days of hire

▪ Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children alone in a classroom

▪ Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences

▪ Must be able to manage confidential information.

▪ Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of theirabilities

▪ Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs

▪ Be available for full time employment and available to work as late as 6:30 pm

▪ Have dependable transportation

REQUIRED EXPECTATIONS

▪ Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physicalneeds as well as their educational needs

▪ Utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times

▪ Be a positive role model for all care giving staff and children

▪ Be customer service orientated and professional

▪ Provide excellent customer service according to the standards of Early Start Learning Development Center

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

▪ Develops, weekly plans, and implements age appropriate curriculum (lesson plan) to nurture and stimulate all domains of children’s development in their care.

▪ On an on-going basis, plan, evaluate and improve the physical environment in the classroom to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the developing child.

▪ Exchange information and serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary intervention/prevention team.

▪ Completes child transition and orientation of the classroom with parents.

▪ Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/caregivers.

▪ Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service.

▪ Maintain accurate, complete and timely client and agency records; Completes daily meal and attendancerecords.

▪ Completes daily health checks regarding hygiene, safety, and overall well-being of the children.

▪ Assures a healthy, safe, clean and developmentally appropriate environment for children including, but not limited to, classroom, kitchen, foyer and restroom.

▪ Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, diapering, hand washing).

▪ Assist with functioning and monitoring of nutrition and food service.

▪ Ensures that the Associate Teacher and Assistant Teachers are kept updated in all matters concerning the classroom. Train any teacher aides in the classroom and direct them as to what duties need to be carried out throughout the day.

▪ Completes and reports any symptoms of child abuse to supervisor.

▪ Reports all staffing and classroom concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.

▪ Conduct child assessments and facilitate parent-teacher conferences.

▪ Attend and engage in occasional parent participation events and other events that may be on nights and/or weekends.

▪ Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times
