Washoe County School District (WCSD), located in Reno, Nevada, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Human Resources leader to assume the role of Chief Talent Officer. This position works directly under WCSD’s Superintendent and is tasked with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department while also acting as a senior member of the executive team responsible for providing counsel and leadership on all initiatives surrounding WCSD’s 8,000 + member workforce.

About the position: In this role, you will have the opportunity to direct all employee recruitment, retention, motivation, and career development efforts and will serve as a member of the Superintendent’s Leadership Team, responsible for planning, organizing, and developing the implementation of goals, objectives, and procedures for the Office of Human Resources. You will partner with other senior leaders to help influence WCSD’s ability to retain its current outstanding talent and will oversee the development of talent pipelines that aim to increase the diversity of new hires among all employee groups and target/address high-needs areas that include but are not limited to Special Education, STEM, Counseling, Music, Transportation, Nutrition Services, and Housekeeping. You will create strong relationships with higher education institutions and education organizations to ensure that the District is the employer of choice for all newly-graduated teaching and support staff candidates. You will also provide strategic leadership to the Department of Professional Growth Systems in the development of career pathways for all Licensed Administrators, Certified, and Educational Support Personnel with the goal of attracting and retaining outstanding talent as described in the District’s Strategic Plan.

Position requirements: The ideal candidate for this position will have at least five (5) years of full-time leadership experience in a comprehensive human resources program including individual accountability for more than one of the following functions: staffing, recruitment and selection; compensation and classification; labor relations; and employee services. Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of leadership, process performance management and supervision; organizational development principles; applicable state and federal employment laws; functions, processes and practice of human resources administration, including staffing, recruitment and selection, compensation, classification, employee services, risk management and benefits; principles of labor relations practices including collective bargaining, progressive discipline and dispute resolution; human resources information systems and automation; principles of continuous systems improvement; and District policies, procedures, goals and standards is also required.

Experience in public education desirable.

Salary and Benefits: The starting annual salary for WCSD’s Chief Talent Officer is $165,000 and the selected candidate will automatically be enrolled in the State of Nevada’s Public Employee Retirement System with 100% contributions made by WCSD.
