The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for ensuring the standards, protocols, leadership and direction of Community Health Alliance (CHA) are all aligned to provide the highest quality of care to an ethically and socially diverse patient base. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, implements operating efficiencies aimed at enhancing patient flow and increasing the number of patients cared for. Responsibilities include assessing existing medical standards, cultivating a culture of quality, providing management and leadership to all medical team members.

Community Health Alliance is a non-profit federally qualified health care facility (FQHC) located in Reno, NV with six clinics strategically positioned to serve the community. We provide an extensive range of healthcare screening and prevention services, comprehensive primary care for all ages, pharmacy, pediatric dental services, management of chronic diseases, outreach to and services for homeless individuals and families, and behavioral health care. In addition, Community Health Alliance manages a Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. We also provide community education on health issues and outreach to underserved populations. Education and Qualifications: Medical degree from an accredited Medical School (M.D. or D.O.) required. Board certified preferred. A minimum five years clinical experience preferably in primary care. Minimum three years of management/leadership experience in an inpatient or outpatient facility preferred. Experience treating or managing care for a culturally diverse population desired. Bilingual Spanish is preferred.

Job Summary/Objective:

Responsible for the delivery of patient care to an ethnically and socially diverse patient base. This includes ensuring standards, protocols, leadership and direction are all aligned to provide the highest quality of care. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer implements operating efficiencies aimed at enhancing patient flow and increasing the number of patients cared for. Responsibilities include assessing existing medical standards, cultivating a culture of quality, providing management and leadership to all medical team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the executive team regarding workforce strategies, quality of care improvements, physician alignment initiatives, patient satisfaction, and “best practices” into clinic operations, physician recruitment and succession planning.
  • Monitors the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the Quality Improvement (QI) program as it relates to medical services. The QI program will include the appropriate monitoring of medical care received within the organization, the development of policies and procedures, and the development of means for assuring compliance with CHA policies, procedures, and grant requirements.
  • Oversight of the development and deployment of physician dashboards or other management tools to improve patient outcomes and provider satisfaction.
  • Responsible for meeting provider productivity and quality metrics according to CHA standards of operation.
  • In collaboration with Lead Clinicians, Health Center Managers and Scheduling Systems Administrator coordinates’ provider time off, scheduling and other clinical operation needs.
  • Facilitates rapid resolution of issues between medical staff and the organization. Works to assure that the organization’s progress in achieving a positive relationship between leadership and medical staff.
  • Assures all providers are qualified by training and experience to perform those services they are assigned to provide. Establishes and implements the credentialing and clinical privileging framework and guidelines.
  • Encourages and maintains activities that ensure professional relationships between CHA and other community physicians, agencies, educational organizations, vendors, and any agency benefiting CHA services to the community.
  • Works with IT Director and other relevant staff to ensure that Meaningful Use Targets are met and to ensure that appropriate clinical data is collected and reported.
  • Responsible for compliance with all clinical medical policies, staffing, directives, rules, regulations and clinical performance standards of the State, Federal and Local government entities and health center bylaws and accrediting bodies.
  • Identifies the frequency, type and purpose of periodic provider staff meetings, training and internal education meetings.
  • Reviews and approves all medical protocol sources used in the clinics.
  • Oversees provision of CLIA waived point of care laboratory tests including ensuring that all recommended controls are in use and staff is competent in tests performed.
  • Works collaboratively with internal and external coding resources to improve coding of physician services proved by medical staff.
  • Chairs medical leadership meetings and provides professional staff support to medical committees.
  • Coordinates medical oversight of the Telemedicine program.
  • Demonstrates CHA’s core values in performance and behavior.
