Job Background

The Chief Engineer/Utilities Manager manages 24-hour Power Plant operations of the AriZona Beverages plants which provides Steam, Heat, High Pressure Boiler, Chilled water, ventilation and hot water to two plants. The individual in this position supervises the Boiler operators/Engineers on staff and provides necessary training for their responsibilities. A major responsibility of this supervisor is ensuring the safety of personnel through proper management of equipment, and regular security checks of the property. This position is a Working manager position and must be able to fill in for boiler operators on all shifts if needed. The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining site utilities, plant building & grounds maintenance/reliability. This position manages internal resources in the above stated areas, works with vendors and consultants as required, and serves as a technical liaison pertaining to electricity, water, natural gas and regulatory plant infrastructure. Deliver overall Team results as it relates to utilities reliability, labor utilization, system performance, safety, quality, GMP's, and 5S sustainment. Individual is responsible for all utility improvements including, reliability, cost reduction, waste reduction, sustainability, safety, quality, sanitation, as well as ensuring compliance with established regulatory policies and procedures. This position is accountable for developing and communicating appropriate structure, work systems, standards, and associate capabilities to deliver the facility capital and energy control plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES

A day in the life of a Chief Engineer/Utilities Manager at AriZona Beverages includes:

  • Supervises the Utilities Team and the Oversees the Stationary Engineers
  • Provides for and oversees the provision of the proper supply of steam to the complex by starting up and regulating controls of boilers; ensures that daily equipment inspections are conducted, and meter readings in each of the plant is documented during all shifts.
  • Assures the proper maintenance of the Utilities Plant and its equipment by performing or overseeing the installation, repair, overhaul, cleaning and lubricating, and by ordering required parts and replacements. Administers the preventive maintenance plan for the heating plant; documents necessary information and maintains accessible records and files in a secure place.
  • Works to ensure Emergency power systems remain operable during power interruptions
  • Supervises the operation and maintenance of all chilled water systems including chillers, towers and water treatments
  • Provides critical thinking and consultative utility system operation and preventive maintenance for the power system for other Arizona Beverages facilities
  • As needed, responds to assists with problem resolution and critical system interruption.
  • Provides review of new construction and the interfaces with utility system design contractors.
  • Adheres to regulatory compliance standards of local and federal regulatory agencies
  • Ensures no major citations noted during agency inspection
  • Coordinates and monitors the proper completions of all preventive maintenance work and meets or exceeds performance improvement targets
  • Ensures the protection and safety of residents, employees, and property from theft, harmful acts, hazards or interference by training the boiler operators and scheduling regular rounds by the operating Engineers throughout 24 (twenty-four) hours.
  • Makes suggestions to the Facilities Manager for Power Plant and Security improvements and equipment needs; calculates consumption of fuel oil.
  • Monitors the fire alarm system and keeps system files in a secure place. Designs and coordinates the overall schedule for boiler operators and Maintenance Mechanics to handle snow removal in collaboration with Plant Manager
  • Trains and supervises selected Power and Physical Plant staff members to operate the heavy equipment for snow removal. (Seasonal).
  • Takes responsible charge of the operation, maintenance, testing and repair of plant equipment such as boilers, furnaces, pumps, fans, engines, turbines, generators, electrical equipment, heating and ventilating equipment, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, etc.
  • Operates and/or supervises the operation of control consoles for building management and boiler management systems.
  • Troubleshoots problems with computerized controls, determining the source of the malfunction and taking necessary steps to resolve the problem.
  • Is in responsible charge of operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment in plant buildings.
  • Supervises assigned personnel.
  • Mechanical aptitude for large equipment operations.
  • Ability to be a team player as a part of the larger, overall Physical Plant services.
  • Flexibility to do varied jobs and to respond to problems and emergencies as they arise.
  • Ability to adjust to changing environment (inside/outside, poorly ventilated areas, dust, heat and odors).
  • Experience in Power Plant/Boiler Plant operations. “Hands-on” experience with heating and utility systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have an engineering degree or Equivalent years of experience
  • Must have 6-8 years of experience in progressive work experience in operations and maintenance of central utility systems or similar Mission Critical Plant
  • Must have 6-8 years of experience working with High pressured boilers, Steam production and recovery
  • 7+ years of experience in a management/supervisor role in a manufacturing environment that includes Electrical Controls, Utilities, Gas and Oil-Fired Boilers, Steam and Hot Water Systems, Industrial Refrigerant Systems, and Plant Maintenance.
  • New Jersey Gold Seal 1st Class 1A Stationary Engineer license is Preferred
  • New Jersey Red Seal license is required.
  • Ability to read and understand Mechanical Drawings
  • Proficient in MS-Office (Excel & Outlook)
