Job Title: Senior Center Manager

General Description: The manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Chickasaw Nation Senior Center, including the selection, development and performance management of employees. In addition, they oversee the inventory and ordering of food and supplies, and ensures that Chickasaw Nation elders are satisfied with their experience at the center.

Supervision Received: The manager reports to the director or designee.

Supervision Exercised: Center employees and center volunteers

Education:

High School Diploma or GED Required

Training And Experience:

  • Required Experience (3 -5 years) - Office Management experience
  • Required Experience (3 -5 years) - Supervisory experience
  • Preferred Experience (3 -5 years) - Working with senior citizens
  • Preferred Experience (6 months - 3 years) - Food preparation

Licenses, Certifications, Other:

  • Required - ServSafe Certification
  • Required - Current Oklahoma driver's license and good driving record
  • Required - CPR and First Aid Certification

Supervision Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversees and manages all areas of the senior center and makes decisions on matters of importance to elders’ service.
  • Adheres to Chickasaw Nation standards and service levels.
  • Leads an effective team in the delivery of services to senior citizens.
  • Trains employees and center volunteers on process and procedures of center.
  • Oversees all budget duties and ensures that all financial (invoices, reporting) and personnel related administrative duties are completed accurately, on time and in accordance with division and tribal policies and procedures.
  • Enforces sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness and maintenance of senior center, including kitchen, dining area, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring consistent high quality food preparation and service.
  • Maintains a professional image, including center cleanliness, proper uniforms and appearance standards.
  • Formulates food costs, and works with Food Service Manager for efficient provisioning and purchasing of supplies. Supervises portion control and quantities of preparation to minimize waste.
  • Sees to food needs and ensures orders with distributors are placed and schedules the delivery of fresh food and supplies.
  • Ensures positive customer service in all areas. Responds to complaints, taking any and all appropriate actions to satisfy complaints.
  • Ensures that proper security procedures are in place to protect elders, employees and tribal assets.
  • Ensures a safe working environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents. Completes accident reports promptly in the event that anyone is injured.
  • Manages shifts which include: daily decision making, scheduling, planning while upholding standards, product quality and cleanliness.
  • Investigates and resolves complaints concerning food quality and service.
  • Conducts orientation, explains the Chickasaw Nation mission, and oversees the training of new employees.
  • Leads employees by providing ongoing feedback, establishing performance expectations and by conducting performance reviews.
  • Maintains an accurate and up-to-date plan for center staffing needs. Prepares schedules and ensures that the center is staffed for all shifts.
  • Keeps Executive Officer promptly and fully informed of all issues (i.e. problems, unusual matters of significance and positive events) and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action.
  • At all times provides a favorable image of the Chickasaw Nation.
  • Maintains a favorable working relationship with all tribal employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate which will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity and efficiency/effectiveness.
  • Pleasant, polite manner and a neat, clean appearance.
  • Completes job responsibilities and performance objectives in a timely and effective manner and in accordance with divisional and tribal policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for planning activities (i.e. arts & crafts, games, trips, etc.) for elder participants.
  • Must be ServSafe certified.
  • Will uphold all ServSafe guidelines.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Required - Knowledge of computers (MS Word, Excel).
  • Required - Self-disciplined, creative, leadership ability and outgoing.
  • Required - Proficient in the following dimensions of center functions: food planning and preparation, purchasing, sanitation, security, tribal policies and procedures, personnel management, recordkeeping and preparation of reports.
  • Required - Ability to travel and will be required to be away from home on travel. Times may be 1 day to 1 week long.
  • Required - Ability to motivate employees to work as a team to ensure that food and service meet appropriate standards.
  • Required - Must be able to handle the pressures of simultaneously coordinating a wide range of activities and recommend appropriate solutions to center problems.
  • Required - Must possess good communication skills for dealing with diverse staff.
  • Required - Ability to coordinate multiple tasks such as food, while maintaining required standards of operation in daily center activities.
  • Required - Ability to determine applicability of experience and qualifications of job applicants.

Physical Requirements:

  • Required - Hours may vary if manager must fill in for his/her employees or if emergencies arise (typical work week = 40 hours).
  • Required - Ability to perform all functions at the center, including cleaning and homebound delivery when needed.
  • Required - Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting products and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and repetitive hand and wrist motion.
  • Required - Work with hot, cold and hazardous equipment as well as operates phones, computers, fax machines, copiers and other office equipment.
  • Required - Ability to be away from home

Work Environment:

Most often work is performed in a senior center building. However, the manager will be required to travel as needed and will be required to make home visits to clients' homes.
