This is an ideal position for individuals who are interested in helping others and contributing to their community. Call Center Crisis Interventionist provide evidence-informed crisis intervention, suicide prevention, information & referral, and brief supportive listening to individuals who contact local mental/behavioral health authorities in emotional distress, particularly those at high risk for suicidal and/or homicidal thoughts and behaviors. Call Center Crisis Interventionist interact with individuals over the phone, via SMS text messaging or chat. The position provides an opportunity to gain a wide range of clinical skills, and knowledge of the expanding field of behavioral and tele-mental health.

Job Purpose

Essential Functions

Exercise appropriate clinical judgment to mitigate crisis situations for persons served by MHMR Tarrant as well as any applicable contracted entities and community partners in accordance with clinical supervision and agency trainings.

Provide evidence-informed information and referral, brief supportive counseling, crisis intervention and suicide prevention support to individuals who are in emotional distress.

Coordinate emergency and case management services with community partners, including law enforcement, as applicable and ensure that appropriate continuity of care and crisis follow-up are completed.

Answers calls received through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Provide follow-up to high-risk callers reporting suicidal and/or homicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Conduct assessments in accordance with program policies & procedures.

Utilize resource referral databases to provide information and referral assistance to individuals seeking mental health and substance abuse services.

Accurately and efficiently document interactions in call log software system and electronic health records, if applicable.

Knowledge of Laws, Regulations, Policies/Procedures, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to maintain professional demeanor when handling crisis and other difficult contacts.

Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.

Knowledge of mental health assessment techniques.

Working knowledge of psychopathology and DSM V classes of major mental illness.

Knowledge of the principles of Crisis Intervention.

High level of advocacy and conflict resolution skills.

Ability to think clearly under pressure and to perform effectively in high stress situations.

Knowledge of community resources and demonstrated skill in making productive person-centered referrals.

Ability to maintain clear and concise documentation.

Ability to organize work independently.

Ability to work independently without or with limited supervision.

Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and holidays.

Attend all necessary meetings at designated time intervals.

Attend and maintain all agency required trainings and refresher courses.

Internal & External Customer Service

This position requires extensive internal and external contacts with persons served, family members, significant others, internal staff, external staff, service providers and practitioners, and community partners. The employee accomplishes communication with exceptional written and verbal skills by answering phone calls and emails in a timely fashion as defined by program needs as well as conducting themselves professionally in all interactions.

This position may require some travel between MHMR Tarrant clinics and other sites by personal vehicle.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree

Defined Education: Health or Human Services

Acceptable Degrees Include: Applied Behavior Analysis, Child Development, Counseling, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Intervention, Education Psychology, Gerontology, Human Growth and Development, Medicine, Nursing, Physician Assistant, Psychology, Registered Nurse, Rehabilitation & Rehab Studies, Social Work, Sociology, and Special Education

Preferences: Bilingual; Minimum one (1) year of experience preferred in a behavioral health/substance-use/disability services area

Substitutions: Bachelor's degree with at least 30 hours of behavioral health coursework.

License/Certifications: Valid Texas Driver’s License

Eligible to obtain Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP-CS) certification.

Must provide license (if applicable) and official documentation of all educational attainment i.e. Transcript/Degree/Certificate

Must maintain American Association of Suicidology (AAS) Crisis Worker Certification

Agency Requirements

All staff are required to participate in agency Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Safety programs and may be assigned by their department as a key/essential staff level function during critical events or for the purpose of sustaining business continuity.

This position may require temporary or permanent re-assignment to any MHMR Tarrant facility as determined by program needs and/or the Division/Director.

Assigned work hours may change as the needs of the agency change.

The Functional Title of this position may change as the needs of the agency change.

All work will be completed within the scheduled work hours. All non-exempt (hourly) employees are expected to clock in and clock out for each work shift, no work should be done off the clock.

Prior approval from supervisor is required for all Paid Time Off (PTO) and Overtime.

MHMR reserves the right to change, add to or eliminate positions as it deems appropriate.

Employment is at will, as well as agency needs may change.

Agency dress code is to be followed at all times.
Any changes or adjustments to your assigned work schedule or shift hours must be approved by your supervisor in advance.
