The Clark County Business License Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Business License Technician position. This position performs technical and specialized work in the acceptance and processing of complex general and regulated business license applications and modifications to such licenses.

Business License Technician I: $17.87 - $27.66 Hourly
Business License Technician II: $19.29 - $29.88 Hourly

The Business License Technician I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Business License Technician II.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.

Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:
Business License Technician I - Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of full-time experience in a financial, legal, or customer service environment. Experience that involves explaining complex policies, procedures, or information is strongly preferred.

Business License Technician II - In addition to the above, a minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience in explaining codes and regulations and in processing documents in a customer service environment and preferably in relation to the business licensing function.

Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Provides factual information, which requires the interpretation of codes, policies and procedures, to business owners, potential business owners and the public regarding licensing procedures and fees; determines specific required application processes including fingerprinting, inspections and appearance before the Board of Commissioners. Reviews complex general and regulated business license applications for completeness, accuracy and compliance with codes and regulations; interviews applicants; determines appropriate license per regulatory requirements and whether the potential business is located within the unincorporated area of the County; refers the applicant to the proper agency if required. Enters application information into an automated tracking system; determines, calculates, collects and receipts appropriate fees; establishes necessary files and distributes materials to other departments. Processes changes in ownership and/or business location, sale or closure of businesses and other changes to the license documentation. Counts and balances monies received on a daily basis. Maintains logs and records of work activities; may compile statistical or other reports regarding license activities. Maintains on-going communications with local, state and federal regulatory agencies to coordinate and resolve licensing problems. Uses a variety of standard office equipment, including a personal computer, in the course of the work.

EXAMPLES OF ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Performs a variety of general office support work related to the business license activity such as greeting the public, answering the telephone, typing labels and correspondence and filing materials.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
