Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This position is located in Topeka at the Eisenhower State Office Building. This Bureau Chief is the senior manager and administrator for a multidisciplinary work group, including engineers, geologists and technicians that work in the office, field and lab.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop, track and administer annual Bureau budget.
  • Develop succession plans for key positions to ensure Core Functions of the Bureau are maintained.
  • Work with section leaders to ensure staff workloads are appropriate.
  • Communicate Bureau procedures and policies with internal and external partners.
  • Provide technical support in field of expertise as needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering or Geology License recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions.
  • Ten years of engineering or geology experience, including five years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fifteen years of engineering or geology experience, including at least five years of supervisory experience.
  • Ten years of professional experience in structural engineering, geotechnical engineering or geology with at least five years as responsible/in charge.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Experience to communicating (written and oral) technical information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience effectively managing work groups including field and office personnel.
  • Willingness to delegate authority to the lowest possible level.
  • Experience interpreting and utilizing civil engineering plans, reports, and calculations.
