Bridge Tender - Ortega


The Bridge Tender operates movable bridges over navigable waterways in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. As Bridge Tender, you will act rationally and calmly in abnormal circumstances and notifies local authorities, repair technicians, supervisors, and our client as required to ensure proper and safe bridge operations.

Success Criteria

  • Follow all company procedures, policies, and rules.
  • Provide safe, courteous openings for marine traffic.
  • Provide a safe passage for vehicle traffic, cyclists, and pedestrians.
  • Follow all safety protocol.
  • Inform supervisor immediately of all incidents, malfunctions, and accidents.
  • Ensure safety of maintenance personnel.

Key Accountabilities

  • A strong commitment to company service values.
  • Maintain neat accurate logs.
  • Check supply inventory and report deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Call for traffic control and emergency services as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace.
  • Compile and review EOM (end of month) materials for supervisor.
  • Build rapport with delivery vendors.
  • Assist other departments as needed.

Must be capable of lifting between 20 -40 pounds of weight. Must be able to stand and/or walk as required to fulfill your job duties. Must be able to bend and stoop repetitively. Must be able to climb up and down ladders and bridge stairs into and around bridge houses. Must be able to function in a very hot or cold environment. Must have 20/40 corrected vision or better. Must be able to distinguish red, amber, and green colors or lights. Must be able to hear a forced whisper from 5’ with or without hearing aid or hear frequencies from 500 to 6,000 hertz plus 15 DB.
