Title: Blood Bank Lab Tech

Job Summary:

Supervises the day to day technical activities of the Laboratory department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides high quality of service in assigned area.
  • Accurately documents information in a neat legible manner.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities as requested by supervisor and clinic management team.
  • Accurately performs all routine and non-routine duties specified in departmental procedure manuals without supervision.
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and document procedure or instrument problems. Has the ability to troubleshoot instrumentation over the phone.
  • Routinely performs duties within established guidelines.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and adheres to safely standards established by Baptist Health policies.
  • Makes every effort to correct or report safety hazards and potentially unsafe working conditions.
  • Maintains and projects positive guest relations to clinic visitors, patients, families, and employees.
  • Communicates a positive image of Baptist Health through personal and telephone contacts with guests, co-workers and the general public.
  • Demonstrates commitment to high standards of service, excellence and quality.
  • Cultivates a positive work environment.
  • Responds appropriately to customer requests.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of a patient’s medical condition, medical record or any other important information.
  • Routinely performs lab procedures within established department turn around times.
  • Follows specified protocol for alert value and stat reporting.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and adheres to safety standards established by departmental and system wide policy. Reports and corrects safety hazards and potentially unsafe working conditions.
  • Develops programs to attain personal goals and participates in educational activities to insure further professional growth.
  • Maintains and projects positive guest relations skills to visitors, patients, families, vendors and employees.
  • Communicates a positive image of Baptist Health through personal and telephone contacts with guests and the general public. This includes maintaining the confidentiality of a patient’s medical condition, medical record or any other important information.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job related hazards, and national patient safety goals.
