Benefits Specialist is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the benefits department in a multi-company environment. The Benefits Specialist will develop, implement, administer and maintain benefits programs, polices and procedures, ensuring programs meet employee needs, are cost effective and comply with legal requirements.

Benefits Specialist responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists with planning, implementation and administration of all aspects of benefits for multiple companies including PTLS, AFC and ABCO Transportation
  • Assists with preparation and distribution of informational literature and verbal presentations to notify and advise employees of eligibility for benefits programs, such as insurance plans, paid time off, 401(k) plan and special employer-sponsored benefits and activities
  • Assists with the annual Open Enrollment process; conducts Open Enrollment meetings
  • Manages communication to employees regarding benefits related matters; Promoting company benefits to employee via multiple channels including creation of benefit packages by way of benefit booklets, new employee orientations
  • Oversight of daily benefits processing; handles enrollments, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, loans, COBRA, and compliance testing
  • Ensures compliance with COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA provisions, and files required State and Federal reports
  • Identifies and deploys continuous process improvements and cost savings
  • Serves as subject matter expert and point of contact for all benefits related matters including interpretation of benefit policies, programs, and procedures
  • Research, analyze and resolve questions or discrepancies from employees and managers as it relates to benefits information such as benefit eligibility, plan coverage and deductions
  • Maintains HRIS data, such as configurations, processes, and running queries.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 2+ years’ benefits administration or related working experience preferred
  • CBP, CEBS, PHR or SHRM-CP Certification a plus
  • Strong Microsoft Suite experience
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Previous benefits and HRM system experience; Paycor and Oracle Cloud preferred
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and inter-personal skills, with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with people in all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing unmatched customer service
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently; Spanish is a plus
