Job description

MIT Lincoln Laboratory's Energy Systems Group (Group 47) is seeking an Assistant Group Leader to help advance the Group’s mission to enhance our Nation’s energy resilience across Homeland and Department of Defense missions.

At Lincoln Laboratory, the Assistant Group Leader (AGL) position is an experienced technical leadership role that directs and supports the overall managerial functions within a Technical Group. AGLs works collaboratively with other Group Leaders, the Group’s business/administrative team, technical program managers, and technical staff to develop and execute the Group’s overall strategy and associated technical programs. AGLs collaborate with various U.S. government agencies and external partners to identify innovative technology solutions, lead ambitious technology development efforts, and help manage the Group’s day-to-day staff performance and development and resources management.

The Energy Systems Group is currently focused on energy resilience for Department of Defense (DoD) fixed installations and tactical deployments, climate change effects on critical infrastructure, contested logistics, cyber security of control systems that interface with energy systems, and the development of advanced energy technologies. The Group leads systems analysis efforts focusing on the gaps between infrastructure and operational requirements, executes live exercises for testing the energy and cyber resilience posture of DoD missions and installations, develops and fields energy-system and advanced energy prototypes, researches new energy production technologies, and builds hardware-in-the-loop and real-time simulation platforms.

The new Group 47 AGL will help grow the Group in new areas, leveraging the strong core expertise of the Group. New areas are expected to include architecture development and modeling for integration of renewable energy sources into the domestic energy grid, broader energy-related critical infrastructure resilience, logistics and supply chain security, and prototyping hardware and software solutions to high priority energy resilience needs both for the civilian and DoD missions.

The activities in the Group require multidisciplinary approaches. The applicant will be expected to possess technical breadth and an awareness of emerging technologies. The successful applicant will have demonstrated an ability to lead and mentor staff of diverse technical backgrounds and synthesize needs and capabilities to guide program development and execution. The ideal candidate will have some energy-related expertise as well as systems analysis and leadership expertise.
