Position Summary
Position Description: Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Informatics ( AVCRI )
The Information Technology (IT) resources have been integrated between The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and Nebraska Medicine (NM), uniting the infrastructure, policies, and operations. The NM focus has been prioritized to ensure reimbursement and clinical care operations maintain the highest IT security. Concurrently, there has been an increase in patient numbers and visits seen in NM. While research remains a high priority and growing enterprise at UNMC, clinical research has focused primarily upon clinical trials, but with growing interest in population health research and observational health outcomes research.
The AVCRI is responsible for leading research efforts involving the generation and analysis of data associated with bioinformatics, medical informatics, and health informatics studies, including epidemiology, biostatistics, and population health. You will have an active role in developing and communicating research policies and programs across the campus primarily related to research data stewardship. More specifically, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Informatics will assist the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR) with the following:
  • The development of policies and procedures that govern the storage, management, and security of research data
  • Enhance communication between the VCR Office and the research community concerning research-related activities, especially those involving the storage, management, and security of research data
  • Identify new research initiatives and incentives that will foster research growth, including research excellence, expand translational research teams, and increase the number and success of large grant applications
  • Facilitate joint research program planning with the Associate Deans of Research, other campus research directors, and other Nebraska institutions of higher education, including identifying areas for strategic recruitment of nationally recognized, extramurally funded investigators
Your responsibilities would include although would not be limited to the following:
  • Actively participate in regular meetings with the Vice Chancellor for Research and the senior leadership of the Vice Chancellor for Research office as needed
  • Work closely with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Resources to regularly evaluate and make recommendations about National Research Institute (NRI) and other VCR resources and their core facility advisory committees, including prioritization of resources to create and maintain the core facilities that will best serve and attract world-class investigators
  • Oversee VCR office support in projects related to general Heath Information Technology (HIT), patient registries, and population health
  • Facilitate the creation of longitudinal clinical research registries that can be a source of data now and into the future for those beyond that clinician in UNMC
  • Facilitate research studies within patient populations both internal to UNMC/NM and/or in the community
  • Facilitate research using local, regional, and/or national data
  • Attend the twice-monthly Academic Space Committee meeting that reviews space assignments
