General Function

An entry level data professional contributing to the design of data models and databases, data quality, and the effective acquisition, integration, management and communication of data and metadata, under supervision.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Able to understand what data is needed, but will be needing guidance and support on how to do so efficiently.
• Not able to model yet, but pairs with peers during stage for understanding and education.
• Pairs with peers
• Training to understand and learn statistical or technical software. Not familiar with efficient techniques or styles. Receives feedback from peers or superiors.
• Able to create basic visuals
• Assist in the on-boarding and curation of data in enterprise data catalog
• Investigate, scan, and validate data lineage with supervision
• Assists in preparing data policies, standards, and procedures
• Performs data profiling with supervision

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

• Comes in with no prior knowledge of business, and specifically retail. Key focus is to actively learn fundamentals and baseline KPIs of focus area first
• Develops an understanding of the existing data and systems, with the ability to learn and apply knowledge quickly.
• Possesses basic understanding of one or two query languages, tools and technologies, with the ability to learn and apply knowledge quickly.
• Maintains awareness of various analytics methodologies.
• Applies technical knowledge under guidance, supervision and well-defined work direction.
• Develops an understanding of the technical architecture, data landscape and IT environment, as well as tools used in development, deployment and testing.

Experience and Education

Bachelor degree preferred, or relevant experience.

• Operates effectively as part of a team.
• Is assigned tasks of limited duration and complexity.
• Escalates delays, issues, risks and highlights to managers and/or project leads.

Physical Requirements

• Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.
• Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: operating a computer, occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 10 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking.
• Must be able to perform the following physical activities: meeting with customers, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

The duties for this position are performed in a general or remote office setting. There is weekly pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a day.
