Atwater Vineyards, one of the Finger Lakes’ premiere wineries, is located on a spectacular 80-acre vineyard site overlooking Seneca Lake specializing in dry, low-intervention wines. We are looking for an Assistant Wine Maker to join our winemaking team.

The Assistant Winemaker supports the Head Winemaker to ensure superior wine quality at all stages of wine production—including crush, fermentation, aging, blending, and bottling. The successful candidate will possess a solid understanding of winemaking and winemaking equipment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a team.

Salary ranges from $38,000 to $41,600 based on experience. After a three-month probationary period, full-time employees receive health care, paid time off, and the option to participate in a matching IRA plan.

Responsibilities and Requirements

• Assist with crush/press of grapes
• Assist with the care of wine during fermentation, clarifying, and aging stages
• Manage wine storage for maximum storage and safety
• Perform lab analysis of grapes/wines from vineyard to bottle
• Assist with filtering and bottling of wine
• Work with Winemaker on all blends/trials/tasting to ensure the highest quality wine makes it to bottle
• Assist with record management, including work orders and compliance information
• Assist in the sourcing, ordering, and storing of raw materials used in winemaking
• Maintaining inventories of dry goods, storage vessels, lab chemicals, additives and other winemaking materials
• Maintain cleanliness of facility, equipment, and working spaces
• Become forklift proficient
• Other assigned duties

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
• Strong organizational, problem solving, and communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
• Able to operate computer and basic computer programs
• Able to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders

Physical requirements

• Must be able to work extended hours, as needed
• Must be of legal drinking age
• Ability to lift up to fifty pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and walk on uneven ground and wet surfaces
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to operate in small spaces
