The New York State Office of the Attorney General is seeking an attorney to serve as an Assistant Solicitor General in the Bureau of the Division of Appeals and Opinions in New York City. The Division of Appeals and Opinions represents New York State, its agencies, and its officers, in appellate litigation on a wide range of constitutional, statutory, and common law issues affecting the interests of the State. An Assistant Solicitor General should expect to brief and argue a substantial caseload of appeals before the state and federal appellate courts, draft briefs amicus curiae, and make recommendations concerning proposed appeals and amicus filings.

The work of the Division of Appeals and Opinions arises from every part of the office’s work, including the defense of state statutes, programs, and officers, and the enforcement of laws protecting consumers, investors, workers, civil rights, public health and safety, and the environment.
