The Department of Sociology offers majors in Sociology and Justice Studies, minors in Sociology, Justice Studies, and Gerontology, and an MA degree in Justice Studies. We are an active, engaged faculty with diverse research and teaching interests.
Essential Duties
  • Teach Sociology courses serving the Sociology, Justice Studies, and/or Gerontology programs ranging from the introductory to the graduate level.
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Engage in scholarly research and professional activities.
  • Participate in College and Departmental activities and committees.


Occasional Duties
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chair of the Sociology Department.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Ability to teach courses required for the Sociology and Justice Studies programs administered by the Department of Sociology.
  • Ability to engage in scholarly research and professional activities.
  • Ability to contribute to the curricular, assessment, and advising work of the Department and its programs.


Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Ph.D. in Sociology by time of appointment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to teach core courses in sociology, justice studies, and/or gerontology, including introductory courses, research methods, and/or classical and/or contemporary theory.
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses across the current sociology and justice studies curricula and to complement current faculty expertise.
  • Ability to teach graduate courses and supervise MA student research.
  • Interest in and experience with active and experiential learning pedagogies.
  • Experience working with and mentoring a diverse student population.
  • Interest in contributing to interdisciplinary programs at the College, including the First-Year Seminar program.
  • Willingness to adopt a leadership role.
  • Individuals from minoritized backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
