The Assistant General Counsel is concerned with all aspects of the legal, risk management, and regulatory performance of the organization. These include insurance, billing and collections, human resources, real estate, safety, and other legal issues. Maintains communication with the General Counsel regarding any issues or risks which might impact the business and operational activities of the organization. The Assistant General Counsel will work to foster and maintain positive, effective, and efficient working relationships within the department ensuring a consistently positive and productive place to work. Works to actively instill the culture, mission, and vision of the company to their work. Must have the experience and knowledge to comprehend and manage multiple, complex business entities.

Work is full time and requires overtime. Work is conducted primarily onsite in Bakersfield OR onsite/hybrid in Tarzana, CA, and includes visits to other CNS locations as needed, with some work in the community and other sites.

Job Tasks:

  • Works with insurance brokers and carriers on various lines of insurance coverage, including worker's compensation, employee accident and health, and general liability. Manages relationships with brokers and carriers.
  • Assists in managing the legal aspects of employee benefit programs, including pension, profit sharing, worker's compensation, group insurance and other benefit programs.
  • Consults with Admissions Department as needed related to patient admissions, insurance benefit determinations, contract interpretation, etc.
  • Manages relationship with external attorneys in all legal matters, including general corporate contracts, litigation, and general business advice. Maintains confidentiality of attorney-client relationship in all appropriate matters.
  • Consults with billing and collections department on outstanding collections matters and manages litigation associated with such matters, consulting with outside counsel as necessary.
  • Reviews and maintains corporate books/documents regarding the respective corporate entities.
  • Reviews/revises contracts to be entered into by the company and advises on risks associated with such contracts, in consultation with outside counsel where appropriate.
  • Reviews documentation for, and advises on, corporate real estate transactions including purchase, sales, and exchanges.
  • Assures that policies reflect appropriate and current procedures. Assures implementation of policies/procedures as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree and licensure in CA is required.
  • Prior experience in business with some experience in health care preferred.
  • Must have the experience and knowledge to comprehend and manage multiple, complex business entities.
  • PC -based computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet and accounting software are desirable.
  • COVID vaccination with booster (when eligible) required.
