Principal Responsibilities:

The Assistant Executive Director oversees day-to-day operations of the Gordon JCC, and is responsible for developing, implementing and operating JCC Fitness, Sports, Aquatic, Adult and Community-wide programs and membership services. This position has broad oversight of almost all programming offered at the Gordon JCC and is involved on a daily basis with supporting each of these programs and serves as the first point of contact for center needs during all operational hours.

The Assistant Executive Director will provide strong leadership to staff and creativity to enhance existing and develop new programs, services and activities, and planning for future improvement and growth. The right candidate for this position will have excellent organizational and collaboration skills, as well as a desire to mentor and support those working for them

As part of the senior management team, s/he will ensure that the Gordon JCCs programs, activities, and functions are effective in carrying out the agencys mission. This position requires excellent organizational and collaborative skills, as well as a desire to mentor and support those working for them. This exempt position reports to the Executive Director.

Essential Functions:

Executive Responsibilities

  • Assist executive team with day-to-day agency operations
  • Assist executive team with personnel matters
  • Work with department staff to organize and facilitate task forces and/or committees
  • Assist with the enhancement of agency ambience, organization, and cleanliness.
  • Attend Board meetings and other committee meetings as deemed necessary (finance, executive, etc.)

Staff Management

  • Supervise assigned department heads (Fitness, Aquatics, Adults, Arts, Community Wide programs and Member Services)
  • Manage employee performance to maximize the talents of a diverse workforce
  • Coordinate with all departments to ensure a smooth service delivery and positive experiences for members and guests.
  • Support all departments with recruiting and training staff
  • Check in with department heads formally, on a regular basis, and informally as needed
  • Conduct on-going annual evaluations of all assigned staff
  • Work with Marketing and other department staff to ensure that publicity and marketing needs are met on a timely basis
  • Create and actively promote a comfortable and welcoming environment where every member/participant is treated with dignity and respect in a friendly and personal manner.

Financial:

  • Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of supervised department budgets ensuring that they utilize the JCCs financial resources productively
  • Manage expenditures within identified budget limits; review financial statements and provide information to the Finance Department as requested

Program

  • Supervise, assist with development, and ensure implementation of all JCC programs and activities that exceed community expectations
  • Encourage innovation in new and existing programming to create fun, meaningful and relevant Jewish and secular experiences
  • Work with staff to engage current members in varied programs across departments
  • Stay abreast of current trends to develop programs and services to keep the Gordon JCC competitive within the industry, and to meet the evolving needs of the community.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure that they achieve goals

Outreach:

  • Anticipate and be responsive to member/participant needs and requests
  • Engage/collaborate with other agencies and organizations in the community
  • Encourage the development of new relationships and build community
  • Participate in efforts in the areas of membership recruitment and retention, marketing and communications, financial resource development, and special events planning and implementation

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelors degree required, Master in a related field preferred
  • JCC experience and strong Jewish knowledge preferred
  • 8+ years experience, in supervision, program development and implementation, and administration
  • Must possess good decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Must possess leadership skills and be able to delegate, motivate, and inspire team members
  • Must exhibit honesty and integrity
  • Must be organized and able manage and prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and manage time
  • Must be able to work as part of a team
  • Must be able to take initiative to solve problems and be willing to seek assistance in solving problems
  • Must be able to communicate well, in written communication and verbally
  • Must be able to effectively and in a timely manner respond to requests from others

Salary:

$75,000 - $85,000
