We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller for our corporate located in Suffern, NY. The Assistant Controller is responsible, using solid accounting, analytical, and time management skills to provide expertise to process, review and evaluate the financial transactions of an assigned portfolio of multi-family properties under the Controller's direction and supervise a team of property accountants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Timely preparation of monthly financial packages for a portfolio of affordable residential properties
- Manage general ledgers for multiple affordable residential properties
- Prepare detailed monthly and year-end work papers
- Reconcile and analyze all balance sheet accounts which included reviewing loan documentation and agreements to ensure proper accounting practices
- Analyze & reconcile Gross Potential Rent for multiple affordable residential properties
- Ensure proper coding of all invoices or payables associated with assigned entities
- Review monthly budget to actual variance reports and prepare variance explanations
- Review bank loan balances, as well as escrows & reserves
- Coordinate with Regional, site, and Property Managers
- Manage all accrual and cash basis accounting functions for the portfolio of properties
- Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings for multiple ledgers
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and other documentation to ensure that transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP
- Maintain fixed asset ledger and tenant amortizations
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage assigned accounting staff
- Coordinate training programs for new staff and identify training needs for current staff
- Assist in the hiring process such as reviewing applications and conducting interviews
- Conduct performance evaluations
Qualifications for this position
- BA/BS in Accounting or related field
- Minimum of 4 years in property management accounting utilizing property management accounting software systems, preferably OneSite
- Minimum 4 years in an accounting supervisory role
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office
- Strong awareness of internal controls and company procedures
- Strong interpersonal skills: must be able to communicate with owners, clients, and senior staff
