GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing high quality and member-focused YMCA aquatic programs while maintaining direct supervision of YMCA lifeguards, YMCA JR lifeguards, and YMCA swim lesson programs. Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator provides leadership, instruction, and motivation for aquatics staff in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. All while creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Aquatics Coordinator has the following responsibilities and duties:
Must possess strong organization and management skills
Proficiency in developing and leading a team of staff and volunteers
Ability to communicate effectively and relate to a diverse group of individuals, in all circumstances
Attends staff meetings and trainings as required and completes all on-line trainings in a timely manner
Assist with Lifeguard and Swim Lesson scheduling; fill in for Lifeguards and Swim Instructors when needed/scheduled
Upholds YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth
Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
Establishes new program activities and expands program(s) within the community in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans
Provides leadership in the YMCAs Annual Campaign
Promotes volunteer recruitment and retention
Follows all association hiring/coaching policies and assists the Aquatics Director with posting open positions, tracking applications and following new hire training/on-boarding procedures.
Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports as required for assigned program(s). Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program(s)
Ensures that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA standards, all relevant regulations and other applicable standards
Ensures upkeep of related pool facilities and equipment including daily chemical checks and routine filter backwashing
Occasional travel required
Other duties as assigned by supervisor

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Aquatics Coordinator should have the following skills, education, and experience:
Eighteen years or age or older
One plus year experience working in an aquatics, with some supervisory responsibilities, including program development and working within a budget
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
Pass a comprehensive background check
Must possess strong organization and management skills
Ability to manage and monitor budgets
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Ability to work inside and outside (environments include humidity, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions) year round
Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200lb person; physical ability to see, hear, and communicate clearly
Physical and mental ability to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
The following are preferred, not required, and may be obtained after hire:
YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent
YMCA Lifeguard Instructor or equivalent to be obtained within 6 months of hire
Basic Life Support / AED/ Basic First Aid
Emergency oxygen administration
