Job Duties
Performs changes to SQL or Epic Reporting Workbench reporting, Epic dashboard design and documentation requirements. Mines data from a data warehouse to provide operational tools for improved clinical care and process improvement. The Application Specialist must have clear understanding of systems functionality and/or departmental processes as they relate to the supported system application(s). Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills are required for interpreting and distributing documentation related to systems/application functionality, upgrades and enhancements. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering systems limitations. May be responsible for multiple phases of a project. Duties include instructing, directing and checking the work of others. Must be able to work both independently and as a team member in a solution-oriented, customer-focused environment.

Essential Functions
  • Produce SQL Ad Hoc reports through Epic, Crystal and/or Data warehousing software for review by departments, physicians, administrators, etc.
  • Construct and manipulate large data files for assigned departments, applying intermediate to advanced functions (pivot tables, v-lookups and other complex formulas) to produce reports necessary for contract negotiations, budgeting and other financial and business decisions.
  • Consults with clients to analyze and understand functions to be automated, client needs, objectives, desired features, and input and output requirements.
  • Assist in the design of report layouts to maximize usability and business relevance and increase usability of reporting system by merging Excel and PBI tasks.
  • Creates and maintains reports designed to assist in operational process improvement.
  • Define and document end-user business and reporting requirements based on input from users. Write, run, distribute, and maintain on demand and routine reports to appropriate personnel.
  • Implement new projects and Access Centers to assist in business decisions in the data warehousing system.
  • Analyzes and tests systems during implementation of upgrades during upgrade process. Creates ad-hoc reports to validate upgrades.
  • Strong organizational skills required for data management and managing multiple priorities at any given time.
  • Continuous learning by actively identifying new areas and taking advantage of learning opportunities; using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job and learning through their application. (e.g., courses, reading, self-study, coaching, and experiential learning).

Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility. Required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

  • Understand and write complex user queries.
  • Programming experience (SQL) and knowledge of related concepts (control structures, variable declaration, and modular design).
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Scope, plan, and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously, both orally and in writing. Advanced PC/Excel skills.
  • Ability to provide dynamic customer service using various techniques including positive language, calming presence, attentiveness, clear communication, and patience.
  • Strong workflow and data flow analysis skills, strong problem solving skills and able to acquire a working knowledge of departmental operations.
  • SQL, Epic Clarity, Crystal and/or Data-warehousing skills.
  • Ability to generate and format summary, statistical and presentation reports, off-line and online.
  • Analytical skills including the ability to visualize, articulate, conceptualize, and solve complex problems using logic and reason.
  • Proficiency in preparation of concise and accurate reports.
  • Manage stressful situations in a calm, courteous and efficient manner.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, prioritize multiple tasks, and problem solve under pressure.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • General understanding of data warehouse design.
  • High level knowledge of maintenance procedures using advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • A demonstrated high level of creativity and latitude.

Experience Requirements

4 years Strong SQL development - including stored procedure development required

4 years Developing solutions to user specifications required

4 years Appropriate experience preferred

4 years Microsoft office - Extensive preferred

Up to 1 year Data warehouse design preferred

Up to 1 year Healthcare industry preferred

Up to 1 year Computerized physician AR, scheduling or other related medical

billing/management systems, and/or electronic health record and/or

accounting/HR/payroll systems preferred

Education Requirements

High School Diploma required

Associates Business Administration, Allied Health and Computer Science preferred
