Under general supervision performs responsible work in the enforcement of state and local animal control laws and ordinances and in the investigation of violations of such laws and ordinances. Responds to a variety of animal-related complaints from the general public. Performs all duties as assigned.

Summary: The purpose of the position is to manage animal populations; control diseases spread by animals, and enhance the general health of the community by enforcing the public health code and the Seagoville City Ordinance.
Duties include, but are not limited to, general animal control services and shelter operations with a minimum amount of direct supervision and with the exercise of independent judgment; Acquiring information concerning animal control law violations, takes action, causes action to be taken, or relays information to the proper authority; Preparing case reports, testifying in court, and assisting in prosecution or release to the proper agency of all persons cited or arrested in the course of animal control duties; Enforcing laws and ordinances by catching and impounding unlicensed animals and animals running at large; Issuing citations & infractions as appropriate; Proactively patrols and reacts to citizen complaints regarding domestic animals and other animal threats; apprehending stray animals; investigating animal bite cases, and reports of animal cruelty; quarantine animals considered dangerous to the public; tranquilizing and immobilizing animals as necessary; Rinses, scrubs and disinfects animal cages and outdoor runs, hallways, floors, walls and isolation/quarantine areas; cleans water and food dishes and related kennel equipment and facilities, scrubs interior of animal-holding refrigerator after animal carcasses have been removed, cleans and disinfects animal bedding; Performs rescues, removals, disposal, and adoption of animals; Maintains care and feeding of animals at the shelter; Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; MUST possess the Basic Animal Control Certificate from the Texas State Dept of Health Services; six (6) months experience working with animals (care, control, and handling). Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Special Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age; Texas Class "C" Driver's License. MUST possess the Basic Animal Control Certificate from the Texas State Dept of Health Services. State certified Euthanasia Technician preferred

Miscellaneous Information

Shall be subject to be on-call during non-working hours. Shall be subject to working evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be available for timely response to after hours call-outs when on-call duty. Must be able to complete comprehensive background check to include drug screen. Applications may be printed from website or picked up.at 702 N.
