    $24.62/hour - $31.60/hour (dependent on education and experience)

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Required
    • B.A. or B.S. in education, behavioral sciences or related field
    • Three years’ experience in education
    • Experience working with American Indian, multiple cultural and ethnic populations
    • Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills
    Preferred
    • Master’s degree in education, behavioral sciences or related field
    • Three to five years’ classroom experience

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of school equity program administration; comprehensive knowledge of school board objectives, procedures and organization; comprehensive knowledge of school personnel and administrative practices, procedures and methods; comprehensive knowledge of school regulations and laws; thorough knowledge of the principals, practices and procedures of student equity program requirements; thorough skill in the use of personal computers and related software packages, hardware and peripheral equipment; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively in both oral and written forms; ability to work with administrators, teachers and support staff; ability to conceptualize, initiate, monitor and evaluate new and/or current programs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, consultants, associates, school officials and the general public.

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Under the general supervision of the Director of Equity Services, this position coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of the diversity and equity activities, programs and services district wide in order to effectively support students’ personal, social emotional, and academic achievement needs through targeted guidance, outreach, consultation, and education services for our American Indian students, families and staff. The Coordinator for American Indian programming will focus specifically on closing the achievement gap by increasing the number of students who are prepared for a postsecondary education, and they will work closely and collaboratively with School Counselors in support of this expectation. The Coordinator for American Indian Programming will collaborate with the Teaching and Learning faculty to create curriculum, access resources, and provide services that will ensure equitable practices across the district. In addition, the coordinator will develop systems for family outreach partnerships and promote early childhood awareness through adult education.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    • Increase the percentages and numbers of American Indian students identified as proficient in challenging subject areas, including reading, writing, math and science
    • Coordinates activities that support/enhance/strengthen cultural identity, using culturally-relevant materials and curriculum when appropriate
    • Works with the American Indian community through various committees to assess needs, and develops programs which will effectively meet the needs of American Indian students; works with district-wide administrators regarding the needs of American Indian students; interact with appropriate agencies; meets monthly with American Indian Parent Committee to present monthly staff reports, budget information; supports the Director of Equity Services in addressing the concerns of the American Indian Parent Committee
    • Increase the number of American Indian secondary students who participate and successfully complete rigorous courses and programs, such as Advanced Placement
    • Increase the number of American Indian secondary students who participate in extracurricular and co-curricular activities
    • Increase the number of American Indian secondary students preparing for college
    • Increase the sensitivity & awareness of American Indian tribal history, language and culture
    • Improve and sustain improved American Indian student attendance
    • Provide dropout prevention activities to increase American Indian student graduation rate
    • Monitor American Indian students’ academic progress
    • Assist the Director of Equity Services in collecting and disseminating information from data driven research, promising educational practices, and professional resources to improve the educational experience of American Indian Students
    • In collaboration with the Director of Equity Services, exercise independent judgments within policy guidelines as appropriate to serve as a resource person and ensure understanding and implementation of District procedures
    • Provide recommendations for professional equity services development training for district staff
    • Serve as a bridge between the schools and American Indian student families; carry out due process requirements
    • Assists school staff in the special education process to understand cultural differences
    • Provide the Director of Equity Services recommendations for staff developments training, promoting research based practices with increasing American Indian student achievement
    • Assist schools to effectively work towards creating an inclusive environment for American Indian students and all children throughout the School District
    • Collaborate with teachers in developing in and out of classroom learning experiences for American Indian students
    • Assist the Equity Services Director in completing reports as mandated by tribal, state and federal agencies
    • Provide regular updates to the Equity Services Director
    • Assist in the development of program evaluation and reporting tools
    • Consult and collaborate with school principals and staff to build greater individual and school capacity for supporting the social and academic success of American Indian students and all students of color
    • Enthusiastically promote the School Districts goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures
    • Other duties as assigned
