Job description
Under the supervision of the Director of Student Recruitment, the Admission Counselor will recruit academically qualified domestic and international first-year students for Jewell’s programs consistent with the college’s student recruitment enrollment plan. Responsibilities will include maintaining a thorough understanding of the academic programs, developing and executing a plan to recruit and yield qualified students; creating and maintaining internal (faculty, students, and alumni) and external networks (influencers, parents, and counselors) that facilitate student recruitment; developing and implementing a robust and personal communication plan with recruited students that complements normal admission’s communications; and evaluating, assessing, and modifying systems and procedures to improve percentage yield. Additionally, this team member will work closely with Visit and Recruitment Events to plan, organize, and coordinate program specific on-campus and off-campus events.
Essential Functions
  • Manage assigned recruitment opportunities, to include outreach, recruitment travel, counselor relations, application review and admission decisions
  • Assist as needed recruitment travel.
  • Evaluate admission applications and make admission decisions or recommendations to the Admission Committee, as appropriate
  • Manage, and execute a comprehensive recruitment plan that provides an exceptional and effective admission experience that fully reflects the value and values of William Jewell College resulting in the achievement of enrollment goals
  • Cultivate relationships with students through extensive phone contact, text messaging, email, personal interviews, and campus visits
  • Cultivate relationships with departmental/program faculty, students, and alumni through interviews, correspondence, and communication to create an internal network that could aid the recruitment process
  • Develop and manage relationships with parents, college counselors and other influencers through interviews, correspondence, and communication to create an external network that could aid the recruitment process
  • Develop and manage relationships and partnerships, as appropriate, with nonprofit organizations, school districts, and community advocacy groups to provide opportunities for application, admission, and enrollment at Jewell by underrepresented students
  • Ensure all Admission activity is accurately recorded in CRM Recruit
  • Participate in the creation of marketing strategies designed to raise the number of qualified applicants
  • Plan and execute specific campus and individual visit events for prospective students.
  • Maintain accurate information on the College, its market, and the admission profession
  • Promote the mission, purpose, values, and vision of the College in daily activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Recruitment

  • Adaptability to PC and mainframe environments, knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Word
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Energy and drive to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to higher education
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel out-of-town
Working Conditions
  • Normal working/office hours required
  • Position entails long hours during parts of the academic year, based upon key periods within the admission cycle
  • Evening and weekend hours will be required
  • Limited Overnight travel
