Essential Functions
This position will serve as an academic coach for the UNO Success Academies (SA) within the Division of Student Life and Wellbeing and will work with students in several learning communities supported through the program office. This position will promote a sense of belonging and relationship building with undergraduate students by providing one-to-one academic and career coaching, connecting students to resources and learning experiences, assisting them with developing success skills and habits, and supporting their progression to degree completion. This position will collaborate with campus and community offices and services to provide wrap-around support to SA students. This position will use a variety of data analytics tools and resources to provide proactive guidance to students, with an overarching goal of increasing retention and graduation rates.
Work Schedule
Primarily Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. Occasional programming on nights or weekends.
Additional Duties
Duties will include the following:
- Conduct individualized academic coaching sessions to assist students with goal setting, troubleshooting challenges, development of success strategies, etc.
- Assist with application and selection process for scholarships administered through the office.
- Support the recruitment and onboarding process for new students connected to learning communities in the Success Academies office.
- Document and maintain notes related to student meetings.
- Collaborate with program staff to support the student Peer Mentor Program.
- Assist with and support event programming sponsored by the program office.
- Collaborate with campus and community partners by developing and maintaining relationships and connecting students with appropriate support services.
- Assist in supporting the first-year seminar course (US1010 – Critical Thinking for the Modern Day College Student).
NOTE
: This position is partially supported through private funds that are subject to a renewal process every 3-5 years.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree. Candidates should have an interest in working in a collaborative and positive environment as part of a team of individuals promoting student success.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in an educational setting. Ideally, previous experience in higher education with preference given to tutoring, learning communities, or student support programming experience with at-promise student populations. Possess knowledge of current and emerging trends concerning students in transition and college student success; knowledge of learning strategies, academic success skills, motivational techniques, and basic counseling principles; excellent interpersonal communication skills; strong collaboration skills.
