DESCRIPTION:

Enhance the access and augmentative communication skills of students with special education needs by providing assistive technology services in collaboration with and under the direction of the supervising AAC speech-language pathologist. These services may include consultation, collaboration, designing new tools and strategies, and creating materials in coordination with the school site teams.

This position is subject to Board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations and applicable State and Federal statutes. This position carries no administrative authority or responsibility.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide consultative services and support to special education teams, in collaboration with and under the direction of the supervising AAC speech-language pathologist.
  • Perform administrative record keeping, including documentation of services (may include Medicaid documentation) to be reviewed by the supervising AAC SLP.
  • Develop materials as requested by the special education teams and/or AAC SLP.
  • Collaborate professionally as a part of multi-disciplinary teams, including classroom and school support staff.
  • Travel to school sites regularly and provide services to students and/or school personnel as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about students and their families at all times.
  • Adhere to the rules and procedures of the licensing agency for the license carried for this position.
  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) licensure needed for Medicaid billing within 1 year.
  • Perform data collection and recording tasks in an objective and consistent manner, relative to the implementation and use of assistive technology.
  • Follow through on assistive technology services as directed by the AAC SLP.
  • Have specific understanding of AAC/AT equipment, tools, and strategies, and how they can integrate into student learning opportunities and student program needs.
  • Support the implementation of assistive technology in order to meet student IEP needs.
  • Assist classroom teams in the determination and recommendation of student assistive technology needs in their programs.
  • Service assistive technology equipment by completing regular functionality checks, maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in maintaining accurate inventory of AT department devices and equipment.
  • Contributes to the professional development of colleagues, related to AAC/AT support and services.
  • Participate in department improvement opportunities with the AAC speech-language pathologist, such as research projects, in-service training, and public relations programs.
  • Successfully pass the RESNA exam within 12 months

GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend and participate in staff development activities and/or meetings as requested by the supervisor.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor or which are indicated to assure the physical or emotional well being of students.
  • Successfully complete and maintain certification of district adopted crisis prevention/intervention program(s).
  • Ability to listen, make sound emergency or crisis decisions, and effectively work with students in special education environments.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the District and Department of Special Education.
  • Attend scheduled meetings as assigned.
  • Demonstrate excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to physically perform assigned duties.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and vehicle available for on-the-job use.
  • Vaccinated for COVID 19


WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in office and classroom environments. Involves sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and moving computer equipment to and from floor level. Use of computer keyboard, mouse and monitor; office equipment; and, hand tools required to modify equipment as necessary. Requires driving a personal vehicle. Requires successful completion of program adopted crisis prevention/intervention training. Must implement de-escalation strategies to include physical intervention of students and occasional lifting up to 70 pounds without assistance. May include attendance at evening and weekend meetings.
