Job Summary

The Youth Services Coordinator reports to the Youth Services Manager. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide outstanding service in a safe and quality program through warm interactions at the RecPlex. The Youth Services Coordinator is responsible for supervising part-time staff and maintaining safe operations with a comprehensive array of youth development programs and services including: Baby U, Preschool U, Kids Court & Lil’ Tykes, School Age Care, and Youth Events. Additional responsibilities include: staff scheduling, training, and observations. The Youth Services Coordinator also works closely with the Youth Services Assistant Manager and is responsible for ensuring that the children in the programs are receiving adequate care and supervision.

Job Duties

  • Oversees and coordinates the recruitment, training, certification, scheduling and performance of all part-time Youth Department staff.
  • Supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child enrolled in the program.
  • Must be able to analyze, interpret and develop child care program operational policies.
  • Maintain program reports, accident and rescue reports and keep staff informed of regular, new and upcoming activities, events, and policies.
  • Work with parents to promote understanding of their child's growth and development; encourage parent participation in school programs; attend parent group and Center functions; conduct conferences upon request.
  • Maintain child and staff files.
  • Assist management in meeting departmental goals for efficient and effective operations of the department.
  • Greet guests and members entering the program area and strive to create a positive first impression.
  • Respond to calls, questions, concerns and feedback regarding staff.
  • Utilize superior interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with parents, children, employees, and the public.
  • Work with school officials to promote school age child care programs.
  • Inspect facilities for safety hazards and deficiencies from established standards in cleanliness, maintenance and operating procedures.
  • Assist with the appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom and its learning centers.
  • Assist with special events and “in house” and “out-of-house” special activities at the RecPlex.
  • Assist with the implementation and enforcement of policies/procedures.
  • Must be able to work efficiently, compassionately and with empathy for those people who have special needs and requirements due to age or other cognitive or physical disability.
  • Implement general problem solving and interaction with program staff, children, and parents.
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings and seminars; maintain required certifications.
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Flexible work schedule requiring the ability to cover shifts when a substitute is necessary.
  • Works as Manager on Duty (MOD) on monthly basis, weeknights and some weekends as needed.
  • High degree of public interaction and communication with exposure to periods of high activity and possible stressful interaction with the public.
  • Must be able to calmly and safely handle medical emergencies including providing first aid and CPR.
  • Drive multi-passenger vehicles to transport children between RecPlex and designated schools.
  • Works in indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to warm temperatures and heavy humidity, slippery surfaces, water and pool chemicals. The work requires long periods of attentiveness, swimming, jumping, standing, sitting, pulling, pushing, reaching, carrying, cleaning, visual monitoring, verbal and written communication, hearing, moving about pool area and outdoors, moderate lifting (15-50 lbs.)
  • Work will also be performed outside at a beach on a lake with exposure to warm/cold temperatures, heavy humidity, great lengths in the sun, rainy conditions, noise, sandy/wet surfaces, Lake Water and insects.

Requirements - educational, certifications and experience

  • Must have a degree or pursuing degree in Education or related field.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, including MS Office products
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and motivational attitude.
  • Enjoys teamwork and contact with people, especially with kids of all ages.
  • Basic First-Aid, Infant/Children’s CPR certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Complete lifeguard certification within 6 months of hire

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $44,768.71 - $55,960.89 per year
