POSITION: Youth Ministry Leader

STATUS: Part-Time (up to an average of 30 hours per week)

WORK WEEK: The Youth Ministry Leader position is a very flexible position in terms of hours and time to accommodate our scheduled special services, activities, events as well as the applicant’s possible scheduling needs. The most important times to be at church are when the youth are at church (primarily weekend worship and Wednesday evening). The Youth Ministry Leader should be in the office enough time to regular communicate and coordinate activities with the church staff.

SUPERVISES: All Volunteers in Youth Ministry

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Initiative-taking, enthusiastic, creative individual who has a mature Christian faith and the ability to articulate personal faith. It would be desirable that this individual becomes a member of Lord of the Lakes Church.

· Must possess a sensitivity to the needs, desires, joys, hurts, etc., of people (especially youth) and a willingness to affirm the personhood of each individual and enjoy being with and working with the youth.

· Must develop a positive rapport with the youth and be available and accessible to youth for conversation regarding personal concerns.

· Must be able to delegate responsibility effectively and appropriately.

· Must possess good organizational skills.

· Must utilize effective communication skills.

· Music experience will be great, but not necessary.

PRIMARY GOAL: Together with the pastor, conduct a pastoral ministry that inspires young people to grow in their relationship with Christ and God’s people.

Key Area of Responsibility: YOUTH MINISTRY

SUPPORTING GOAL: Support opportunities for study, fellowship, and social events that involve junior and senior high school youth of Lord of the Lakes Church and the surrounding area.

· Intentionally develop relationships with the youth of the congregation and community, support and encourage them in their personal and spiritual lives.

· Build strong, positive, and authentic long-term relationships with the youth of Lord of the Lakes for the sake of forming life-long faithful Christians.

· Actively recruit adults to be engaged with the youth in small and large group settings.

· Supports and participates in educational, service, and recreational activities for the youth of Lord of the Lakes Church.

· Plan and implement age-appropriate activities for youth (grades 7-12) that promotes fellowship, community, fun, service and develops faith.

· Encourage involvement for mission trips, Bible camps, youth gatherings, for the youth.

· Provide leadership for youth ministry and functions as the primary staff person relating to youth ministry.

Key Area of Responsibility: EDUCATION AND WORSHIP MINISTRY

SUPPORTING GOAL: Together with the pastor, supports the congregation’s education ministry (i.e., confirmation).

· Support to the confirmation program

· Regularly attend worship

· Give an occasional children’s sermon, as assigned by the pastor.

SUPPORTING GOAL: Carry out the position of Youth Ministry Leader appropriately and effectively.

· Maintain strict confidentiality regarding member information, contributions, and other personal matters.

· Demonstrate behavior consistent with the mission of Lord of Lakes Lutheran Church and foster a spirit of thoughtful, considerate cooperation with staff members.

· Follow through with the volunteer screening process to ensure a competent and qualified body of volunteer adults

· Attend relevant meetings with Pastor/Youth Team.

· Submit relevant material/announcements for the monthly newsletter and weekly bulletins.

· Submit written progress report to the President of the Council and Council members of Lord of the Lakes ahead of monthly Council meetings.

· Make electronic/telephone and personal contact with youth and family.

· Engage in relevant continuing education to gain current ideas and expertise in youth ministry.

· Submit an annual budget, with the cooperation of the Youth Team, to the Business Management Team and church council.

· Oversee the expenditures of the budget allocated towards the youth ministries.

· Oversee fund-raising efforts for youth ministries trips.

· Co-ordinate the annual summer mission trip and/or other annual youth events.

· Attend youth events outside of church (sporting events, concerts, etc.)

SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with training and experience.

PERFORMANCE REVIEW: The Lead Pastor with input from the Youth Team will conduct a performance review annually during the month of August.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
