POSITION SUMMARY: The person selected for this position will be under the direct supervision of UAU’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) School-Based Program Coordinator and the executive staff within a designated Bronx-based NYCDOE school or Staten Island Based High School. This person will serve as the liaison between UAU and said partner NYCDOE school(s) to implement the “School-Based” SYEP program at any given site and will manage the development, implementation, and oversight of the initiative. The selected person will be responsible for providing an appropriately safe, caring, and enriching environment for youth enrolled in the UAU program. Youth Employment Coordinators are responsible for conducting themselves in an appropriate manner, setting the example for partners, participants, parents, and colleagues by reflecting the core values of UAU: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The Youth Employment Coordinator is responsible for complying with all standards set by United Activities Unlimited, Inc. The Youth Employment Coordinator selected is expected to possess a deep interest and passion for youth development and achievement. Candidates familiar with personal, demographic, and cultural impediments related to youth employment are encouraged to apply. The selected Youth Employment Coordinator would ideally utilize this information to support the creation of successful youth engagement, teachable moments, and lasting rapport with SYEP participants. Experience working with diverse populations and ESL students is a plus. EOE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES:

  • Assist with the recruitment, enrollment, and implementation of SYEP/WLG participants
  • Collect, review for completion, file and maintain participant records/paperwork
  • Recruit worksites for job placement of SYEP participants, specific to their career pathway following School-Based recruitment strategies
  • Enter weekly timesheets and assessments for SYEP participants efficiently and effectively meeting committal deadlines
  • Support in-school Career Services department by counseling students on career options and guiding their development of job and college search skills. Assist Career Services staff with special projects.
  • Mentor participants with a focus on the introduction and expansion of workplace-readiness and college-preparedness skills.
  • Help in developing, planning, and implementing workshops for SYEP participants
  • Attend school meetings and coordinate with school to ensure success of partnership
  • Attend UAU Workforce Development division-wide meetings
  • Participate in professional conferences and other self-directed professional development activities.
  • Daily communication with selected DOE staff and SYEP School-Based Program Coordinator
  • Supervise UAU’s Job Readiness Counselors and Service Learning Coordinators to ensure quality of programming
  • Maintain participant and worksite files up to the standards set forth by UAU and DYCD
  • Complete other advisory duties as requested such as track retention of applicants/participants of SYEP and WLG
  • Conduct internal and external audits, providing satisfactory audit scores up to the standards set forth by UAU and DYCD

Maintain internal documents which reflect: student advising statistics, participant work schedules, and other reporting documents. Including the UAU Trackers and DYCD trackers for aforementioned programs

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, with 2+ years of experience in youth services or education capacity
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint and the GSuite platforms
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and time management skills
  • Ability to stay organized when managing multiple participants and work sites simultaneously
  • Ability to conduct and complete work independently
  • Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed
  • Excels working in a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and values individuals’ different capacities, cultures, and abilities
  • A high level of emotional intelligence and ability to thoughtfully and accurately assess and respond to individual needs
  • Respect for diverse racial, socio-economic, ethnic, academic, religious, and cultural backgrounds and identities
  • Experience developing program models, evaluating performance, and analyzing data/metrics

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need.

  • Position is in a well-lighted office environment.
  • Involves sitting approximately 50% of the day, walking or standing the remainder.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the time.
  • May include working prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $58,500.00 - $59,000.00 per year
