Anticipated Employment is May - November 2023.
Location: Southeast Region- East Wenatchee.
Salary: $2,827.00 - $3,734.00 Monthly

This position interacts with interagency dispatch personnel as well as field personnel and the general public while monitoring communication and radio dispatch between field resources for the Southeast Region, Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, and the United States Fish and Wildlife.

Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Receives communications from various sources by telephone and radio and records, evaluates, and disseminates reports of wildfires, smoke complaints, and accidents/incidents on public lands protected by the above mentioned agencies;
  • Dispatches resources to incidents;
  • Uses a computer terminal and tracking maps to obtain and provide updated information on mobile resources, overhead, and wildfires;
  • Maintains contact and status of aircraft assigned to local incidents;
  • Monitors burn permit information and assists in providing pertinent information to the public;
  • Receives and announces updates from the National Weather Service;
  • Provide logistical support to wildfire incidents by utilizing multiple source lists to procure equipment, crews, and supplies;
  • Work with neighboring dispatch center and the geographic area coordination center to support fires across the United States.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • One year experience with work involving public contact or communication such as radio communications, receptionist, switchboard operator, or clerical office work which included dealing with the public.
  • Efficient skills in computer programs such as Microsoft Suite.
  • Effective verbal and written communications.
  • Experience with record keeping.
  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a high pressure environment.
  • Ability to manage workload.

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:
  • Position's assigned duty station is the Central Washington Interagency Communication Center (CWICC) in East Wenatchee. Work is performed in an office setting (90%) and field visits (10%). Must be able to pick up and carry appropriate supplies (up to 25 lbs), as needed, to conduct assigned tasks. Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced and reactive environment.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and ability to explain the Forest Fire Protection Laws/Rules - i.e., Violations, Silvicultural Burning/Permits, Forest Closures/Suspensions, Fire Protection Regulations, Hazard Abatement.
  • Trained in WildCAD (Wildland Fire Computer-Aided Dispatch).
  • Working knowledge and ability to utilize the ICS (Incident Command System).
  • Initial Attack Dispatcher experience.
