Job Summary

The Web Developer works within a team environment performing web application and website development. This position will be responsible for the technical analysis, design, development, testing, and support of websites and applications. In addition, this position will build user interfaces for campus websites and services utilizing WEB's content management systems, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The position develops engaging front end interfaces that convey the institution's identity and message needed for student, faculty, and staff recruitment and retention.

Primary responsibilities of this position include improving and maintaining our front-end framework, writing and maintaining accessibility standards in JavaScript, and working closely with the graphic designers, application developers, content strategists, accessibility coordinators, and non-technical clients. This position translates client concepts for a website or service, starting with sketches and wireframes and carries those through technical implementation.

Technical Duties include:

  • Performing web application development, both long-term and day-to-day maintenance as well as providing technical analysis around how we use and should adopt and/or modify various functionalities.
  • Designing user interfaces that take into account the human factors that impact interactive experiences
  • Performing Technical Support & Incident Management providing subject-matter expertise on web design best practices
  • Perform Core and Integration Testing of all planned Changes for web designed solutions
  • Create, Maintain and Update design specific documentation like Style Guides, Templates, and reusable Code Snippets

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$60,000 - $65,000 annual

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Any combination totaling two years (24 months) from the following categories:
    a. College course work in Information Technology (IT), Computer Sciences, Engineering, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    • 30 semester hours equals 12 months
    • 60 semester hours or associate's degree equals 18 months
    • 90 semester hours equals 24 months
    b. Work experience in IT-related profession
  • Work experience that includes the following:
    a. Two years (24 months) of experience collecting technical requirements and designing websites and web solutions
    b. One year (12 months) of experience developing web assts leveraging HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap (or equivalent framework), PHP or comparable programming language
  • Formal education or work experience with:
    a. software testing, including debugging code and/or unit testing - Chrome Dev tools
    b. Source Control or Incident Management Software Tools such as GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, Jira
    c. using modeling techniques such as UML to capture Use cases, Activity and Usability Diagrams
  • Knowledge of how and ability to use web debugging tools such as Google Chrome developer tools and Mozilla Firebug debugger
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Awareness of current trends in the web, both among private industries and higher education
  • Strong customer service skills along with a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process and product quality, and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with good communication and collaboration skills and considerable latitude and independence of action.
  • An interest in learning new tools, techniques, and methods
  • Experience in higher education administrative systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong Problem-Solving Ability
  • Experience implementing, testing, and working on projects that comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and IT Accessibility Section 508 standards.
  • Experience developing user interface prototypes in Adobe XD
  • Experience developing digital wireframes using Adobe Photoshop managing web content using various Content Management Systems (CMS) including OU Campus and WordPress.

Work Hours

Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday; weekend or after-hours work may be required to support change management or disaster recovery.
